These are the sorts of subtle play designs that I've complained about not having for a while.

The idea behind the route concept here is that it looks like a bit of a rub route, with Lamb running the slant/post and the perception that Ferguson is running an out towards the sideline, presumably freed up into space by Lamb's route. But instead of it just being a simple out, it's a double move, an out and up, so if Ferguson's man bites hard on the initial out action, he's got a step once he transitions to the up.

Adams didn't come crashing down hard but it still opened up lots of space for Ferguson to operate and put Adams into conflict.

Also nice to see Steele doing a solid job on their best edge rusher in that spot.

He has some juice once he gets rolling downhill, he doesn't have great start/stop explosiveness but he can really eat up yards once he gets a head of steam, way more so than Schultz and really more so than Witten outside of maybe his first few years.

I was very surprised, especially given the fact the Niners smoked Gino all night when they played the other day.

You are right. I didn’t notice that until last night, it’s like once he gets rolling he eats up 7-8 yards QUICKLY. He juked the defender a bit last night in slow motion it seemed but literally got 9-10 yards in the blink of an eye. He’s really showing up.

The run game is going to be an issue I believe in the playoffs. As well as Dak is playing, I’m just not sure you can go on the road and throw the ball 40 times a game and not expect something bad to happen. Pollard isn’t the answer. Dowdle looks good, but they won’t give the guy enough playing time to see what he can really do. Gotta be a Jones decision… McCarthy has always run his RBs with the hot hand. They seem intent on running Pollard no matter what.
I think the D was tired, and they made a couple key stops when they absolutely had to, but damn it was unnerving to see Seattle march up and down the field all night. Geno carved up the secondary pretty embarrassingly, and their fucking rookie roasted our guys a few times. Inexcusable, fatigued or not.
Are we for real? Seriously. Are we? We’ve beaten one team with a winning record, and that team hung 35 on us and we needed a bail out play from Micah to pull it off. A win is a win, but these next games coming up are going to tell us if the playoffs are going to be the same old same old, or a new chapter.

To be fair they have a good to great WR group. Metcalf and Lockett have both been good. JSN is a good route runner and generally has good hands. His performance really shouldn’t have surprised anyone. Jourdan Lewis played well last night but he isn’t the corner we ask to be on someone’s top guy usually.

We can hope it will be like the Cowboys 14-2 season. Luck all season and then fall in post season.
