Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo finished the game after injuring his back on Sunday. It remains unlikely that he’ll finish the season.

According to Ed Werder of ESPN, Romo’s back has improved “only slightly” since receiving an epidural injection and other treatment.

Per Werder, Romo hasn’t attended practice, a team meeting, or a game-planning session this week. Which suggests that Romo has been spending a lot of time off his feet and in turn away from being actively involved in planning for the franchise’s latest playoff play-in game.

And so the signs continue to point strongly to Romo not playing and Kyle Orton getting the nod. Barring some sort of a miracle.

Which means the Cowboys are likely to lose the Third Annual NFC East Championship game. Barring some sort of a miracle.

The sentiment of the Cowboys chances are probably correct but the media is also forgetting that Foles was a backup QB not to long ago. Orton actually has more experience than him.

What they don't realize is the switch to Orton will force Dallas to run more, first, and often, which also happens to be the key to winning.

Orton is not too shabby as a passing QB even from the time he was at Purdue. I have confidence in his arm and vision. If there is an apprehension about him it is his lack of game experience with the Dallas receivers.

And he doesn't have the ability to get out of the pocket like Romo does.

Orton is a very capable QB. Obviously Romo is the better talent but it's not like the offense will come to a grinding halt with him out of the lineup. This won't be Stephen McGee bad.

I think he's definitely capable of throwing for 250 and a couple of TDs.

In fact, I'm really not all that concerned about the offensive side of the ball. It all comes down to the defense, IMO. If the defense completely no-shows like they are prone to doing, then I don't think we win even with a healthy Romo.

So while Romo and Orton are getting the headlines in reality Dallas' defense is the real key to the game.

I think Orton is capable of throwing for 300, easily. There are games where I think Romo has about 200 yards or something and he is pushing 350. Not saying I want that, but he is more than capable.

Orton is a good QB, and probably less likely to choke the game away since, as others have said, we should be running the ball more him in. He doesn't give us a better shot at winning than Romo, but we aren't doomed with him in there. I just with Jerry paid as much attention to other backups as he does to backup QBs.

What I'm saying is Dallas will do better with Orton because Orton, as capable a passer as he might be, is no Romo and will make Garrett run the ball more.

"Staying aggressive" (translation: passing your ass off trying to make big plays) is not what the Cowboys need, but it's what they try obsessively with Romo in the lineup.

Running the ball, scoring or driving deep on each drive, and keeping Philadelphia off the field is what's needed. With that philosophy, Dallas can win with a net positive turnover margin.

Orton forces Callahan and Garrett to rely more on Murray, not just pay it lip service.
