And of course this couldn’t happen last year in his contract year that could have knocked that price down.

We have an amazing roster, Super Bowl caliber, but this is the kind of shit you can't guard against and can kill you when the talent level is so even across the board, relatively speaking.

With that said, CB is one of our deepest positions, especially since Mukuamu has played it situationally in the past.

This is a weird one because Diggs is one of our best players but at a position that is probably best equipped to handle an injury, except for probably safety.

We know what Gilmore is, Bland started extensively last year both outside and in the slot, and Lewis has been our starting slot CB for several years until he got hurt. Mukuamu also played important snaps in the playoffs last year.

What hurts the most is that we won't be quite as dominant defensively as we've been, but I think I'd have actually felt worse about losing lesser players for the year at certain positions that are much more thin (i.e. center, WR, etc.).

Don't kid yourself. This is a mortal wound.

Yeah it definitely makes the GOAT defense a little harder to make happen.
This is the real issue, that it likely takes the defense down from potentially generational to just one of the best or the best in the league at the moment. Calling it a "mortal wound" is preposterous, especially when the defense rolled the Bucs and 49ers in the playoffs last year with Diggs/Bland/Mukuamu at CB.
