He was a fantastic pure passer and his mechanics were perfect.

It's a shame for him that he wasn't in a more pass friendly system so he could have really demonstrated how great he was.... At least for those idiots that couldn't already see it.
Playing under today's rules would have helped a great deal too. Maybe his back never gets hurt.

I always love how people act like Troy wasn’t a great QB but he looked like it took 0 effort to throw that. His completion percentage was pretty darn good for the time as well.
the accuracy was off the charts.

Crazy laser accuracy when he found any time to throw and could step up.

His passed snapped across the field very quickly too, but he still found a deep touch more often than people remember when they think of Troy.

Even I, a fan who saw most if not almost all of his games, am guilty of that.

He was so notable for his quick accuracy and timing. There was this TD pass in 1991 where he hit Novacek for like a 25 yard TD in stride vs the Bengals. You don't often see folks throw that dart with that same velocity, touch, and timing.

Earlier in that same game, he hits Alexander Wright deep, though Wright had to come back for it a bit-- Troy snapped that ball like it was nothing.

People are too obsessed with stats to see how he was the engine that drove the passing game, setting up Emmitt to run

I honestly believe that the injuries to Aikman are part of the reasoning why the rules are the way they are. The league would have been just as well off with a healthy Aikman for another 5+ years.

Yeah, it's a subtle difference between taking the edge off defense's ability to intimidate the QB vs removing it entirely.

Brady proved that a smart QB in tune with his coach-- short of facing Von Miller and Demarcus Ware combined-- can make it almost impossible for a defense to physically intimidate him.

But QB's outside of Brady still take lots of hits today, they just aren't the gratuitous kind targeting taking a QB out of the game.

And that's a very good thing for the game.

I remember some 70's Washington-Dallas where those old-assed Washington defenses' #1 strategy was to knock Roger Staubach out of the game.

That's going too far IMO. You have every right to make him hear footsteps and get happy feet, but intentionally forearming him to the head to KO him is just not football. Same thing with OL going for DL's legs. It's bullshit.

It is sad that this qualifies as nostalgia.

But it kind of does to our young stupid fan base.

I'll watch that whole game, that was pretty great.

Non-football, I totally forgot Pat Summerall was doing the intro commercials then. Wow.

Freaking Matt Millen? :doh I actually thought that was Baldinger at first.

Felix had some pretty nice runs. I forgot Spencer had such a big game, I always liked that guy.

He had a really hot end to that season and it was the defense that allowed us to go on a bit of a streak to the the season.

I thought with the way he ended that season that he was gonna put it all together the next season, but it just never happened.

He was the guy you wanted to hit the opposing QB. Always had a violence about him
He was really strong, like country strong. If he got a hand on the QB, the guy went down.
