Also, it's a good idea to handwrite a bill of sale. Put the serial# of the gun on it and have the seller date and sign it. (check their ID to ensure it is same as signature) Keep this as long as you own the gun. Better safe than sorry, if this gun were to ever show up as being used in a crime. You'd have proof of when you acquired the gun and from whom. If the seller is legit, they shouldn't have any problem doing this. If they do, I wouldn't buy from them.

These are two AR's I've been building over the last few months. The first I've done from complete stripped lowers.

The top one is a Spike's Tactical lower and Spike's mid-length upper 1:7 twist with an Eotech 517. I did the duracoating on the metal parts with Lauer Tactical flat black as well as the color fill on the receiver. The duracoat on the furniture was done by Hillbilly 223 customs in Arkansas.

The bottom one is an Umbrella Corporation lower and PSA mid-length upper 1:9 twist. It has an Eotech 517 as well. And I did all the duracoating in Tactical flat black and mixed my own gray from flat black and Tactical light gray. I also removed the triangular A1 front fixed sights on both guns and installed Yankee Hill flip sights.

Dumb gun questions: when you buy guns from private owners and gun shows do you have to register them? I'd like guns but I'd rather do a private sale.
You don't have to register them, but you are supposed to do a transfer of ownership. Most people do so if the weapon they sell is ever involved in any illegal activity it won't be traced back to them.

It all depends on your state. Creating a bill of sale is probably a good idea but I can buy a gun from one private citizen and turn around and sell it to someone else without exchanging anything but cash. As long as it's an in-state transaction it's perfectly legal at least in Indiana. There's no such thing as registration here so the only way a gun can be traced is to the original seller which is probably a gun store or private FFL dealer and they will only have a record of the person they originally sold the gun to. Any second hand sales after that are not recorded or illegal as long as you don't knowingly (and knowingly is a key word) sell to someone who can't legally own a firearm. I usually just check a Driver's License to make sure they're a state resident and old enough and then ask if they're allowed to own a gun. As long as they say yes I'm not legally responsible if they aren't.

Skid lives in Texas, so I was telling him about Texas law. It is encouraged that you do a transfer of ownership, but it's impossible to track with private sales.

Oh, and don't fool yourself. There's a gun registry. You may not have to officially register it, but your background check attaches your name to that gun sale. But, there is no way to track private sales unless there is a transfer of ownership done.

Very nice. I've been leaning towards building one with a Mega, Noveske, or Seekins upper/lower setup.

I'd like a Noveske but I don't have that kind of money. Definitely top of the line. I've heard a lot of good things about Seekins too.

I want to either build or buy a .308 AR and the lowers Mega makes may be an option I go with. I think there was something about their .308 lowers that put me off though. May have been that they don't accept pmag SR-25 mags. I can't remember exactly.

I have an H&K G3 I'm very proud of, got it for 1000 before the first Obama gun scare drove prices into the stratosphere.

Can I ask a legitimate question; why does any of this matter to you. I am not causing trouble, I am seriously curious. I just don't understand. Help me out.

From all accounts I've read, the Mega uppers and lowers are simply beautiful. And, its not priced badly at all....I'd venture to say at this point its cheaper than the Spikes stuff.

I bought a USP .45 when they were first released and it was an amazing pistol. It was the only modern style semi-auto that I found could compare to the accuracy of my 1911's.

My wife just got her CC license. :unsure

Yesterday, I bought her a Springfield XDs 9mm. The main reason she chose it was the slide was easy for her to use, and you can adjust the back of the grip to fit her hand better. I've never owned a Springfield before. First time I've ever fired one, actually. This is a sweet handgun.

Just came from my local Wal-Mart and there was a guy walking around the store with a rifle strapped to his back. Didn't bother me because I'm used to being around guns but I was half expecting someone to call 911 and for police to have the place surrounded.

Not too long ago in one of the neighboring cities an Army Master Sergeant was walking around the city with a rifle across his back and someone called the cops on him. It turned into a big issue because he wouldn't cooperate with the cops when they arrived.

Let me know how that works out. I've been on the fence with these. I really like the .45 in this gun, but read there were a few early production issues with them.

Well, its not a gun, but I picked up a Leica laser rangefinder last week. I have an upcoming hunting trip, and most of my shots will be out around 400 yards.

Holy shit is this thing sweet. I ranged a stray dog in the neighborhood at 345 yards, my neighbor walking at the front of our development :unsure at 602 yards and a water tower at 987 yards.

Its supposedly good on animals out to 1000 yards and solid objects to 1500 yards.

Whats really cool is it tells me the temp and barometric pressure, along with the angle of the measurement.

I bought one this past spring. A Leupold RX-1000i TBR. It has True Ballistic Ranging to automatically calculate shot angles. I friggin love this thing. Takes all the guesswork out.

I even took it golfing this summer. Read the flag distance like a champ. Even showed the degree angles I was above or below the pin. :lol

I looked at the Leupold too. Also the Vortex.

I almost got the Leupold and then got a 12% off coupon in the mail from Gander Mountain so I went ahead and took the plunge.

The Leupold is an awesome little RF too.

So, got me a Ruger .380 LCP. Will be my new carry weapon. Came in yesterday. Will go this morning to pick it up. Got it pretty cheap at the Kentucky Gun Company. They have some reasonable prices. I will be shooting it tonight out back. Will let everyone know how well it shoots.
