2022 Season | Week 17 | Gameday Chatter Thread | Cowboys @ Titans | 12/29/2022

One encouraging thing from last night is that we couldn't run for shit which often spells doom for our offensive production but we still put up 27. Not to mention 3 turnovers.
Titans rush defense 2nd in yards, 4th in TDs, 8th in 1st downs.

Titans pass defense dead last in yards allowed, passing TDs, 1st downs, yet 4th in INTS.

I'm going to sunshine pump for a second.

Obviously the INTs need to get cleaned up, but overall I think the offense is performing better down the stretch this year than it did in 2021.

Oh, there's no question.

Our offense really struggled down the stretch. We were laboring to put drives together and I remember Dak throwing the ball short time and time and time again because we couldn't get anything going down the field.

Those struggles carried into the 49ers game where we barely managed to score 17 points.

So there's definitely improvement there compared to last year and I'm not really worried about the offense, per se. But I am worried about Dak turning the ball over every week and the offense as a whole finding it difficult to protect the football.

We aren't going to win a single game in the playoffs if we keep spotting teams leads or ruining promising drives by being sloppy with the football.

Hopefully they get that cleaned up within the next 2 weeks.

The biggest thing that concerned me about last night was the run blocking. It was atrocious and has been our strength all year. We are really missing Steele it appears.

Yeah, we didn't get any push and didn't create much space.

I'd venture to say at least half our runs went for 1 yard or less.

It was bad.

One pet peeve though, that Minny game wasn't just us playing really well. Minny laid a huge egg that day, too. All teams do it once or twice a year, and that game they did it. They may not be quite as good as their record would indicate, but we aren't really 37 points better than them. I never understand it when people expect that kind of margin just because it flukily happened once.

Its happening every week is my concern. I find myself wondering when it will happen, not if.

Vs Tenn, it was also how many f'ing times will it happen.

remember what happened the very next week . A super fluke 33 point 4th quarter. So....

To what you and 1big and Geng said... I really think this is McCarthy. He's the one who said a few weeks ago that Dak has to "keep firing." And just last night he was asked about the interceptions lately and said, "Well the answer isn't to not throw the ball." I think he saw that constant checkdowns to Zeke for 6 when it's 3rd and 11 were not going to cut it in the playoffs. That's why I think they are emphasizing that he can't be too careful, especially against zones. And it seems to be working for the most part. You just hope he can dial it back to that happy medium at some point.

But to agree with 1big on the offense vs last year, it's easy to forget the malaise that was over the team the last half of last year as we rolled those terrible teams in our sorry division. IMO there are two huge developments: One, using Pollard more. Remember how Zeke kept getting 80% of the work even with a bum knee? And two, Dak's chemistry with CeeDee. It was astounding and unacceptable that until several games into this year, CeeDee's last 100 yard game was that Minny game with Rush a year ago. Now CeeDee is looking like a stud and is Dak's go-to guy, as it should be.

In some ways the offense reminds me of that 2007 Cowboys offense. High scoring, lots of turnovers.
Think the running game with Pollard has been better than any RB on that team, though.

Good to see Lamb playing like an elite receiver. He's been much better than Cooper's best year here.
Doesn't have the TDs of 2014 Dez but I'll take Lamb's 100+ catches over the extra TDs.

Lamb's production this year is very similar to peak Dez, just without as many TD's which is partially because he's not as much of a red zone threat but also partially due to how the offense is built stylistically, plus Dak just isn't the same deep ball thrower that Romo was.

Read closely.
