doesn't sound like a career ender. no cure, but with treatment, maybe it can be managed like diabetes.

For #Cowboys & C Travis Frederick, the early diagnosis of Guillain Barre Syndrome is good news, as is Frederick’s optimism. There are varying forms, from mild (goes away quickly) to serious (measured in months). Now, it is not clear when he could play. But he’s on the right path.

Such an odd result for Frederick. I honestly have no idea what to think.

Just fucking stop it with the "goes away quickly" shit.

You know damn good and well this is what our fucking idiotic leadership is going with. They are going to bank on him somehow coming back from this and beating it as soon as possible.

This is a serious deal and honestly, Frederick should be given the time to take care of himself rather than football.

But I am almost positive they will do nothing about it and just cross their fingers.

Wow. Pretty strange, and if you read the classic symptoms he doesn’t really fit it at all.

Like I said earlier today, even if he's out all year that's no excuse for the coaching staff to have a crippled offense. The Eagles OL was dominant with and without Peters last year, if our OL falls off a cliff without Frederick assuming health elsehwere along the line it'll be just another example of the need to clean house.

I don't really know much about it. Is it unsafe for him to play until it fully goes away? If he tries to play with it does it cause irreparable harm?

This is something that robs physical strength. It is a very serious deal. The idea of him playing until it goes away is not realistic.

Schlereth was a monster though. That SOB had twenty knee surgeries and shit as well. Tough as hell.

Yeah it's pretty rare and it sounds like something that is extremely unpredictable. Hopefully Looney is ready to go for a long while.

There are people tweeting to him....one guy who was in training caught the disease early, received treatment, and recovered in 4 weeks. It’s a moving target and there’s no timeline nor is there a typical case anyone can point to and say “this is how bad it’s going to be”.

Hes already getting treatment and the fact his strength is returning is a very good sign.

There’s only 3% chance of recurrence once it runs its course and the nerves start regeneration.

Fuck, just walk off for a bit. Football is just a damn game. Do not risk your life or mobility for this stupid game. Walk off if you have to.

It should hasten Redball's demise.

FRISCO, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl center Travis Frederick announced on Twitter that he is suffering from Guillain-Barré syndrome, an autoimmune disease.

Frederick was diagnosed with the disease after exhaustive tests conducted over the past few days. He has received treatments in the past 48 hours.

"I am feeling much better from an overall strength perspective," Frederick said in a statement. "I will continue these treatments over the next few days. I am very optimist about my condition and the immediate future, as I have been told that the illness was detected at a fairly early stage."

Frederick said doctors have told him there is no timetable for his return, however, it is possible he could miss multiple weeks of the season, according to multiple sources.

"I am hopeful that I will be able to play as soon as possible," Frederick said.

Frederick has not missed a game in the first five years of his career and has been named to the Pro Bowl the past four seasons.

Last week in California, Frederick was examined by neck specialist Dr. Robert Watkins after having symptoms similar to that of a stinger. With the weakness not subsiding when the Cowboys returned to Dallas, Frederick met with more specialists in Dallas, and the Guillain-Barré syndrome was determined through bloodwork.

With Frederick out, Joe Looney will start at center.

The Cowboys also enter the Sept. 9 opener at the Carolina Panthers with a question about the availability of Pro Bowl right guard Zack Martin, who injured his knee in last week's preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, but he and the team are hopeful he can play in Week 1.

"I am deeply grateful for all of the people who have expressed concern for me throughout the past four weeks, and my teammates and the Cowboys organization have provided me and my family with tremendous support," Frederick said.
