Yeah I'm to the point that I'm drafting a DT in the first he better be a monster or have some stupid quickness. Like Deon Walker as an example of a monster. But I don't understand why we can't draft the 300-315 pound 6'4"+ guy who can get sacks. We have to take the slightly big DE tweeners or the pure NTs.
You basically just described Bresee at the end there, I tried to tell you guys about him.

Defensive tackles are not a premium position. You should not have to invest in the first.

If you do, they better be impactful.

But you have to look.
But that's the problem -- for almost two decades we treated that position along with the Safety position the way we're treating the RB position right now.

It doesn't require a 1st rounder, but it does require a quality investment and that's the balance that this organization just hasn't been able to grasp and I'm afraid that Mazi not working out will them revert to not giving a shit about the position again.

They've poured resources into the position honestly.

Since 2019 you have a 2nd (Hill), two 3rd's (Gallimore and Osa) and a 1st (Mazi), but there seems to be no real organizational viewpoint on what a DT is supposed to be and what you're looking for in one.

Much like the overall defensive philosophy the view of what kind of DT is needed just floats with whatever DC we have at the time to the point that the organization doesn't even seem to know what it's looking for out of the position independently.

Guessing Mazi must have been at least solid again with Dallas shutting down Pitt running game.

I mean I didn't notice anything bad. But I also didn't notice anything great like the previous week. I guess I'll let PFF or someone tell me...

didn't he get called for holding?
He did but there was no replay. I'd have to see a replay to see if it was legitimate. They let D-lineman get away with a lot of that in the NFL. A NT is meant to occupy. So if Mazi was trying to occupy a pulling guard so that they couldn't pull and make a block, I'm actually ok with it. It's kind of part of the job of a NT. Just make it less obvious next time.

I've come to be skeptical of the refs, so I'm not going to hold that against the guy. There was a legitimate mug job of holding on Dowdle on the last play of the game (The game winner) but you didn't see any flags for that. My point is, refs don't have a fucking clue what they are doing.

Ernie tells me it isn't his job to rush the gotdamn passer.
Eh, I mean it's fun to pick on the guy and all. But I want him to stop the run. Plus pressure stats are kind of fake to me. They are one of these subjective stats that everyone calculates differently. Eat your double teams and make the occasional tackle for loss play against the run. Hold your ground. I'm honestly not worried about his "pressures"

I'm not worried about pressures from him specifically, but only because my bar for him is so low. It certainly would be nice to get some semblance of pressure every once in a while. But I'm willing to settle for if he just doesn't get obliterated non stop.

I'll never understand why, throughout his lengthy NFL career, we were never interested in signing Calais Campbell.

Because our front office are a bunch of fools who have no idea how football actually works. Premium dollars go to QB, WR, LOT, EDGE, and CB. Period, because we know best having won, well, um nothing in most fans’ lifetimes.
