Physical talent is there but there's just something not quite right in the head. You can tell by the way he talks, something's off.
Yes. He is not a serious football player.

Results just came in: he's allergic to football.
I can’t think of many draft picks who intensely struggle who suddenly turn it around and succeed.

Can our little Mazi do it?

Golly, I sure hope so.

Noticed that he is still damn slow to react sometimes. It doesn't make any sense.

Our LBers were running free to the ball and making plays. Tells me he was probably doing his job. Sure I'd love some wow plays and I didn't watch him closely because I wouldn't be able to enjoy the game doing that but the run defense looked really good. So at minimum I think he filled the role of NT. I'd have to watch again to see if he got any push though.

He played more snaps than both Linval and Phillips and didn't noticeably suck, so that's positive.
Given his responsibilities as a NT, it’s noticeable when he shits the bed, because there are gaping holes in the middle of the line for RBs to plow through. That didn’t happen on Sunday. In all honesty, the best scenario is to never hear the announce team mention your NT by name because you know that he’s doing his job.

And, given the number of times that the middle of the pocket flattened out and forced Watson to roll out, it says that the interior d-line (in general) did its job.

No one is going to benefit more from the shift to Zimmer than Mazi and the other 1T/NT’s, whether they realize their potential or not.

I’m stoked to see players who honed their opportunistic skills under Quinn trained “the right way” under Zimmer and maybe take away a hybrid style that’s better than either coordinator could have provided on their own.
