Cowboys didn’t miss a beat with backup QB Kyle Orton getting first-team reps

Last season, Kyle Orton floated in the background, spending his time on the sidelines as the dutiful backup to Tony Romo.
Orton played only 11 snaps in 2012 and threw 10 passes after signing a three-year, $10.5 million contract earlier that year.
During the final phase of the Cowboys’ off-season workouts, however, Orton took center stage. With Romo sidelined after undergoing a procedure to remove a cyst from his back, Orton directed the first-team offense during organized team activities and the veteran minicamp.
It was an experience he relished.
“I will certainly fall back on it and take full advantage of all the [repetitions] I got during this off-season, because come camp they won’t be there,” he said.
With that in mind, Orton said his primary objective was to “get my game as good as it can be right now and be ready to go.”
Orton certainly looked confident in his role as offensive caretaker. Receiver Dez Bryant said the Cowboys didn’t miss a beat with the team’s backup commanding the huddle.
“I feel like Kyle’s been doing a great job while Tony’s been absent,” Bryant said. “Kyle’s been outstanding. I have to give it to him. He’s been working with us great.”

Interesting. Because every Tweet about Orton through the OTAs and Minicamp stated he looked terrible.
