Report: Daryl Washington will miss entire 2014 season

Posted by Darin Gantt on May 30, 2014, 11:29 AM EDT

The Cardinals knew something was coming. They might not have realized it was this big.

According to Mike Jurecki of Fox Sports 910 AM in Arizona, Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington will be suspended the entire 2014 season, though it’s unclear if it’s for violating the personal conduct or substance abuse policy.

The Cardinals expected some degree of suspension after he was sentenced to a year of probation for aggravated assault on a female, which would be reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor if he completes his probation.

That’s a huge blow to the Cardinals defense. They signed Larry Foote earlier, and had Ernie Sims in for a visit recently.

They won’t get the same kind of impact on the field from either of those two, but Washington’s off-field exploits have prevented him from having any impact anytime soon.

He was suspended four games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, and another violation of that policy would have triggered a year’s ban.

You could argue this as a big of a loss to them (or bigger) than Sean Lee was for the Cowboys.

This guy is a very good player.
