I think it's a mistake to think this is about "getting Trump".
Once Trump retires to his farm, does anyone think everyone that hates him will suddenly be sane?
Why do they even hate Trump in the first place? It's not because he is braggadocios or because he's a misogynist or racist or whatever else they call him (in fact the evidence suggests he's none of those things).
They didn't hate him until he ran as a Republican. He's simply the most prominent Republican.
Now, his bluster doesn't help, but really all it does is give fuel to people who were going to hate him no matter what. Because he's a Republican (it's not even because he's conservative, since truthfully he's not a classic hard line far right conservative he's closer to moderate).
And it's not like those people have visceral hatred for Trump but are otherwise ok with Cruz, or Vance, or Ben Shapiro, or MTG, or Gaetz, or Rubio, or DeSantis, or Charlie Kirk, or Erica Kirk, or insert any Republican voice. Hell, even Elon, Gabbard and RFK get massive hate and vitriol.
They've been trained to hate Republicans and anyone who helps Republicans since the time of W. It's at a fever pitch now because Trump doesn't suffer their bullshit, but it's been going on for quite a while now (heck they even painted Romney and McCain as radical far right extremists and that couldn't be further from the truth, both are/were very moderate) and it's not going to stop when Trump's done.
So thinking they're out to get Trump specifically is short sighted. They hate anyone to the right of Stalin at this point.
The only thing I see that could reel them back in would be if a reasonable moderate leftist rose to prominence for the Democrats. Sadly there are few of them left, and they had a golden opportunity to elect one in 2024 (RFK) and rather than the party elites having to cede power to him they forced him out of the party entirely. I'm not sure there's any hope for that party anytime soon.
) there's no reason for them to risk beating their heads against the wall again. They'll likely set their main sites on whoever is next up.
