I don't understand the hubris of sticking with a #1 pick when you have a 7th rounder outperforming him. Seems like they'd be glad their scouting department were able to find value in a late round.
I don't understand why we don't sit the worst pass blocker on the Oline. Steele.

Why is everyone attacking Guyton when our worst Olineman is Steele? And Thomas has already gotten reps for an uninjured Steele in a game.

I feel like I'm the only one left at this point but I don't think Guyton has been that bad and Thomas certainly hasn't been perfect.

It'd be kind of retarded to sit Guyton for Thomas.

Steele, sure.

Guyton needs to play and hopefully try to reach his ceiling, which is much bigger than any other tackle on the roster.

As for Thomas, I posted a video around here somewhere that was about Dak but one of the plays in it featured a completely brain dead missed block from Thomas. (And that's not to mention the dumbass celebration penalty he was flagged for.)

I'm not trying to say Thomas has been bad or anything. But he hasn't been the perfect player that some of the fans seem to think either. He's been an excellent swing tackle and exactly what you want from a backup, but it's not a tragedy if he goes back to the bench for now.
Guyton has been better this year, I just still don't trust him. I mean, he was super janky last year, getting dinged a lot and then losing healthy snaps to Chuma. Maybe he continues to develop and gets better to the point that he's very reliable, but to me he has a ways to go to get there.

I also don't expect Guyton to be replaced right now. I just hope they're open minded going forward.

Finally, not sure what you mean by dumbass celebration penalty. They should have given us yards for that brilliant work.

Listened to some of the podcasts today and Nick Eatman, who probably knows as much as anyone there, acted like Guyton would definitely be back this week. Also from what he said, I don't think Nate is going to even have a chance to unseat him. First round pick vs seventh and all that. Sounds like front office politics as usual :angry

I guess things could change later on if Guyton shows signs of cratering, which wouldn't surprise me a bit. Plus, Guyton needs to show he can stay healthy for long stretches, which he hasn't yet.
Thomas will likely be the RT of the future once they move on from Steele. Guyton will get the patience they have extended Taco Mazi.

Each has already received or will receive more benefit of the doubt than the original Taco who played only two seasons in Dallas yet somehow hung on in the NFL for four more years after we waived his ass.

Feh.

You have some anger here that I do not understand.

Charlton was healthy as shit. Guyton has been hurt. New Taco probably should have been following Charlton's path.

Most first round busts will cycle through like that. Even though the four years happened, O.G. Taco went through cups of coffee on seven different teams. I dunno if Taco Mazi even has chance.

Teams will take chances on pass rushers.

Interior DL who have not shown themselves to be overly agile or blobby enough to counter the run usually won't get that kind of grace.

Guyton is already a better player than Mazi.
In some ways it's worse for the team.

I can 100% feel good about cutting Mazi or declaring him a healthy scratch.

But with Guyton you can see the talent and pedigree that justifies a starting spot-- right before he completely whiffs and is effectively not there at all.

You mean like Thomas whiffed in the video above? It happens.

No anger.

I'm very happy we dumped Taco and was impressed the team was able to do pull the trigger and cut him after only his third offseason before year three started and well within his rookie contract.

Mazi I just don't get. It's clear he's no good and with every snap he's keeping reps away from some other player who could be developing.

Worse, when he's on the field the D is playing with a very visible crack in its foundation. The position is too important to suck at.

It's unreal how Mazi is lasting longer than Taco.

Dallas probably isn't the only team that thinks they can fix draft busts based on their original scouting reports.

Yep, Jerry got it from his hero Al and then Parcells reinforced it.

Moton being out is huge, he's probably their best OL, maybe their best offensive player overall.

We were without 4 of the 5 OL last week and look what we did. Dont take this stuff for granted.
Conversely, our pass rush whipped a more talented OL against the Jets than what they'll be going against this week.

Young is more adept than Fields as a passer obviously but as long as the defense doesn't have a bunch of busts on the backend giving up plays over the top we should be fine.
