I remember to this day when the Sixers traded Charles Barkley for Jeff Hornacek, Andrew Lang, and Tim Perry and I still haven't gotten over that shit.

Not even a god damn draft pick.

I'm still pissed about that. I loved Barkley.

One of my favorite memories of him in a Sixers uniform was when they were playing Boston. There was only a few seconds left in the game and the Sixers were down by two. They fouled Larry Bird putting him on the line for two. I was just sure that he was gonna bury both and we were walking away with a loss. Inexplicably, Bird missed the first free throw. And then, missed the second one, too. Barkley gets the rebound and gave Bird the choke sign. In the ensuing play, Barkley drives for the tie, but Kevin McHale ties him up for the jump ball with hardly any time left. Somehow, Barkley wins the jump ball against that long armed gangly bastard and tips it to Dr J. With Danny Ainge in his face, he turns and throws up a three to rip the Celtic's hearts out at the buzzer. I about lost my damn mind.

I know Im weird but my two favorite teams growing up were Houston and Boston. I also really liked Barkley as a player so this story is filled with joy and uggh at the same time. Dont know how I should feel about it. I was pretty much a Bird, Olajuwan, and Barkley fan.
Well, those three and whomever happened to be playing the Lakers at the time.

There was so much awesomeness on the court in that clip. Dr. J., Charles Barkley, Maurice Cheeks, Andrew Toney, Bobby Jones, Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Robert Parrish, Danny Ainge, Dennis Johnson. Holy shit. The NBA was so much better back then.

I laughed when they showed the leading scorers were Mo Cheeks and Dennis Johnson. Both great players in their own right, but my god, Dr. J, Barkley, Toney and Bird were in the game. Just a crazy level of talent there.

I honestly don't understand why NBA teams allow their players to play in these pickup games that have ZERO oversight by NBA teams.

I understand that guys need to get work in during the offseason and that injuries could easily happen in an NBA practice gym but it's a helluva lot easier to stomach losing one of your top players for the year if the injury occurred under the watchful eyes of team trainers and coaches as opposed to losing a guy in some random unsupervised game.

As a fan of the Thunder I'm pissed that we lost our guy in some bullshit exhibition game held at some facility that was so inadequate that they had to call the game off in the 2nd qtr.

So now the owner is supposed to pay this guy (Chet Holmgren) his full salary to lay up and heal just because he decided to play in unsanctioned games. I'd be inclined to dock him 50% of that salary since he put himself in that situation.

Yeah, for two reasons.

1. I didn't want the skinny SOB in the first place. I wanted Jabari Smith.

2. Unless it's the Olympics or some other international pro league, I don't think NBA players should be playing in random games Pro-Ams and pickup games.

Yeah, it sucks now. What the hell is wrong with it? College basketball is still good.

Is it that too few ultra-elite players dominate the game and all the regular college stars can't even keep up? I mean, UNC and Dook crank out tons of ultra high end college players who can't do much in the pros. Example, College Grayson Allen or Tyler Hansbrough are stars, NBA versions of these players suck because they can't match LeBron.

Im glad Ainge isn't with the Celtics anymore. He's been fleecing the league this offseason.

I think it's to drum up interest when it's kind of waning in the middle of a long season. I guess soccer does this.

At least that's what I read a year or so ago when this was being kicked around.
