You might be asking yourself, is this guy really starting a thread about a single game from last season?
And the answer is yes, yes I am, because we're about 36 hours away from the opener, I'm tired of talking about Jerry, Parsons and his prissy agent, and if you just care about ball and not all the extraneous bullshit surrounding the game, I'm going to do you a big favor right here.
The NFL apparently posts full games on YouTube now, and the full, unedited Green Bay at Detroit game from last season is here (you have to click the link because the NFL are a bunch of assholes who apparently force you to go directly to YouTube):
I think this game perfectly exemplifies why they prioritized Clark in the trade, and in my opinion this is the type of performance that shows why he's made a few Pro Bowls.
If healthy Detroit probably would've made the Super Bowl last year, their OL was top 2 in the league alongside Philly, and they obviously prided themselves on being a physical running team above all else. Well Clark basically ruined their shit in the run game here, their RB's combined for only 94 yards on 29 carries (3.2 YPC) and Clark had highlight plays against basically all of their OL. You could honestly make a bit of a highlight reel vs. the run out of just this one game.
And of course I'm going to do you the courtesy of pointing you to the exact plays:
1st Q/2:34 - Beats Ragnow across his face on an outside zone, nice backside pursuit and finishes it with a tackle for no gain.
2nd Q/1:00 (55:48 of the video since they replayed a down) - Beats Ragnow into the backfield for a TFL on the goal line.
3rd Q/13:15 - Splits a Zeitler/Sewell combo, forces Gibbs to bounce outside, beat Sewell to the point that he got called for holding with his arm wrapped around Clark's neck.
4th Q/13:15 - Textbook stack/shed on the LG - Glasgow, plays with nice leverage/vision into the backfield, shed as soon as the ball approaches and tackles Montgomery for a 2-yard gain.
4th Q/9:27 - Another Zeitler/Sewell combo, holds the POA, fights through to close the running lane and gets in on the tackle.
4th Q/1:48 - Splits a LT/LG double, closes the running lane and finishes with the tackle.
Here are a few bonus plays rushing the passer:
2nd Q/13:09 - Bull rushes Ragnow into Goff's lap.
3rd Q/5:05 - Beats Zeitler clean with a swim, forces Ragnow to help, if he was 1-on-1 here without Ragnow able to get over to help he's going to disrupt Goff's throw and might've been the reason they got off the field on 4th and 3.
3rd Q/2:07 - Frees up Quay Walker on a twist/stunt with a strong "crash" that occupies two blockers while Walker loops around, forces a quick throw that leads to a 4th and 1 that Detroit eventually got stopped on.
4th Q/2:06 - Walks Ragnow back into Goff's lap again, but it didn't show up because Goff got it out in 2 seconds. I think the pressure probably forced the checkdown though.
