Cowboys ability to finish has fueled 12-4 record
December, 29, 2014

LANDOVER, Md. -- Jason Garrett spent quite a bit of time this offseason talking to his team about finishing plays, which leads to finishing games, which leads to finishing seasons.

Whatever Garrett’s been telling them has worked.

The Cowboys finished the season 10-0 when leading after three quarters and finished the season 4-0 in December.

In the fourth quarter of their 44-17 rout of the Washington Redskins on Sunday, the Cowboys won the fourth quarter 17-7 turning a 10-point game into blowout. Against Washington, Dallas forced three turnovers, recorded two sacks and scored a defensive touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Clearly, the Cowboys have a good grasp of the concept.

Of the 32 turnovers the Cowboys forced this season, 22 occurred in the second half, including 15 in the fourth quarter. And 13 of their 27 sacks came in the fourth quarter.

“It’s not just about making plays, it’s about the right play at the right time,” defensive tackle Jeremy Mincey said. “That’s all part of learning how to win.”
