It's not an argument. It's economics. It's math. It's simple numbers. Think of it this way, the salary cap goes up every year right? It's just like inflation in an economy. So the million dollars of salary cap money today, is worth less than the salary cap money of a year or more down the road. So if you can take that million now and move it into the future, you've taken advantage of the system. I know most people won't understand this. They struggle with the concept. But it's really cheating the system. 1 mil in cap 10 years ago meant a hell of a lot more than a 1 mil in cap today. So if you can push dollars from today into the future when those same dollars have a small impact relative to the size of the cap, you're ultimately creating an advantage.
This isn't theoretical. This isn't a debate. It's just a fact. Any person even slightly good at math or economics would tell you the same thing. Imagine if you could buy a 100,000 truck today and only have to pay 100,000 for the truck in 10 years. You'd certainly do that over paying 100,000 for the truck today, right? The only problem is you have to have an NFL owner who actually wants to spend the money. Because while the cap is a joke, it's put in place so that owners can maximize profits, not wins. And what I'm suggesting is something that could hurt an owner's profits. The Eagles owner I think has actually had to sell off some percentage of the team to afford what he is doing. And that is where you may be right about Jerry, I think he cares more about profits than wins.
Oh it's not that simple,
When you're breaking down your team, and seeing where you already have money spent, you already have a number one wide receiver, you have a highly paid quarterback, a highly paid wide receiver, a highly paid guard , and need the RB signed, and then you look over and your defense sucks, you have to figure out where to break the pie up..
Is that that hard for you to understand ??!!!! that I'm talking about this money would be more well spent on the defense, they need to figure out a way to restructure Clark, and then rebuild the safety room, get another linebacker ,another pass rusher, maybe another corner, you can't do that all through the draft,
it's much easier in the draft to get your number 2 wide receiver of the future with the draft pick, that you get from George Pickens being traded..
Now you have more money for the defense...
I Told you I'm not really dealing with this ,we'll see what the Cowboys front office thinks..
MY POINT WAS, I don't blame them if he wants too much money and he has to walk, like Parsons, it happens you take the first rounder and you move on...
You're over simplifying this,
it's not that simple this team has so many holes on defense we could use that $30 million part of the cap on the other side of football and get a drafted wide receiver..WR2 from the draft with Flournoy and CD there are teams that have a far worse rooms than that...
Maybe you don't understand when you're dividing up the cap you have to make sure you use the money properly like when you're budgeting your own budget for your house, you don't go buy a second car, when you already have a brand new car, and you don't need a new 2nd car, even though it would be really nice to have a 2nd car, you might wanna spend the money to fix your house...
Maybe you have foundation problems, Maybe you you have major plumbing or HVAC problems, that's where you put the money when you're splitting up your budget, this is like a credit card and a budget that's what the cap is, and yes they can find ways to squeeze it in but I prefer them to spend the time to make sure we have a defense that looks like the Houston Texans ,where they can win with a backup quarterback, and a whole lot less money spent on wide receiver, if you haven't noticed.. Like KC..
yes ,I just used that from looking at last night.... The team that had the younger roster made up with less money used from the cap and more draft picks, sure it'll come due, they won with a backup quarterback why because their defense was absolutely monstrous last night and they beat the bills, who are supposed to be super bowl contenders...
I sure would love to have games that Prescott didn't feel the pressure to score close to 30 points every week, it'd be really nice if our defense can hold GOOD to GREAT teams under 20, or even better than that, that's gonna come from paying attention to that side of football more...
So again,
I hope he stays but if he asks for more money, I understand if we can't keep him, and I'm not gonna be a little toddler who throws a tantrum and blames Jerry for everything, because we should be spending the money on the defense, and we should draft the second wide receiver, that makes sense because if you get a really good wide receiver in the draft like we did in CD Lamb in 2020 he will replace CD lamb like CD lamb replaced Amari, That's how it should be working..
Not many teams have two premium wide receivers being paid like number ones,
there's only a few examples but those are being paid like number twos, the money you guys are talking about in here is insane, anything over 30 would be negligence to the rest of the team....
You're not going to convince me otherwise, and the fact is you're just another fan behind the screen, i'm going to let the team take care of this, i'm going to let nature take its course, so to speak,
we'll see what he's demanding, what he's willing to take a team friendly deal like T Higgins did ,because T higgins could have started for about half the teams in the NFL, and just out of loyalty he took less a lot less, But that's the gap you're looking for look at what Chase makes and now look at what T Higgins makes and that is how it needs to stay here got Lamb at 39 And you need to keep George around thirty.
IM Sticking to my opinion you're not going to convince me so let's just stop debating this we're not even there yet we'll talk about this in March....
