Titans running back Chris Johnson and Bears wide receiver Devin Hester each got the chance to race a cheetah – yes, you read that right – to kick off Nat Geo Wild’s Big Cat Week.

“This is most incredible challenge I’ve ever faced,” Johnson told The Wrap, an entertainment website. “I wanted to go up against the fastest in the world and test myself, and this was it!”

Johnson clocked a 40-yard dash time of 4.24 seconds at the 2008 NFL Combine, but he still is no such match for a wild animal.

“We loved the idea of a face-off like no other between supreme athletes and an alpha predator,” said Geoff Daniels, executive vice president and general manager of Nat Geo Wild. “This isn’t sports, it’s amazing science. … And we are thrilled that Johnson and Hester — two record-setting NFL pros — are helping to kick off this unprecedented experiment during our network’s biggest week of the year.”

“Man vs. Cheetah” will dive into the specific advantages the animal has over humans while looking at how the cheetah’s speed, maneuverability and instincts all come together.

“The whole idea of racing next to a cheetah for Nat Geo Wild was a very unusual proposition,” said Hester. “But it was something I was ready to take on to see if I could get an edge on.”

The show will air in November and it’s unknown if Johnson will be attending the taping in his new Maybach.

Good luck with that.

Cheetahs only go 0-70 mph in 3 seconds flat.

Yeah, but I don't think it applies in this case. Mostly because of this...

Nobody expects this "race" to be anything close. But it would be interesting to see how they show the mechanics of the cheetah and how it can do what it does in comparison to what a human is capable of.

I'm just hoping the cheetah is hungry.
