That's the problem. Some guys actually take a few years to really reach their potential. And our current setup basically means if you're not elite by year 3 you walk. And all that work developing a guy and making him into a good starter is wasted. I hope they figure something out with Osa. I think he is a necessity. Guys like Martin, Cooks, Elliott and all the others you an let walk. But a guy like Osa just has to be kept around or you're doomed for another disaster year at DT.
We're going to be shedding a lot of big salaries very soon in terms of Martin, Lawrence, Steele and potentially even Diggs in 2ish years, not to mention a few mid-tier salaries like Wilson and Hooker either this offseason or next, plus of course the fact that we let Pollard, Armstrong and Tyron walk last year, all of whom had medium to large salaries.
Even if Lawrence or Martin return it'll be 1-2 year deals that are 25% of what they're being paid now.
They can easily afford to pay guys like Osa, Bland and Golston, even on top of Parsons and Tyler in a few years. They might have to let someone like Ferguson walk but he's not a huge priority, much like Schultz he isn't an elite TE who you want to build an offense around and unless he's willing to take a reasonable deal he can go.
