Times change in a hurry for Cowboys
November, 3, 2014

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Just eight days ago the Dallas Cowboys were 6-1 and hearing how great they were.
With two losses in seven days, things certainly look different for the Cowboys.
They are no longer in first place in the NFC East, trailing the Philadelphia Eagles by a half-game.
Defensive end Jeremy Mincey said the Cowboys have to get their focus back, which implies the team lost its focus with the strong start.
“I wouldn’t say that,” Mincey said. “We just hadn’t had that chip on our shoulder. When people tell you you’re good, you kind of relax. That’s the scary part sometimes. We just got to refocus and get our chip back. I know all these men in here are willing to fight. You could see we’ll fight til the end and we just got to have a little more. It’s going to take a little more. I think we’re going to be all right.”
Owner and general manager Jerry Jones has some concern. The cushion of the 6-1 start is gone.
“We have a real challenge ahead,” Jones said. “If we hadn’t had these losses, then we could have afforded to lose one. It’s particularly sobering to know that we had them at home. But we know that the circumstances can get better for us.”
Getting Tony Romo healthy is at the top of those circumstances. Getting back to being the best third-down team on offense in the NFL is another. The Cowboys were 3 of 11 on third down in Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals after going 5 of 12 against the Washington Redskins. Getting the defense to do a much better job on third down, as well, will help, but it has been exposed with the more time it has been on the field.
“The next game can’t get here fast enough,” tight end Jason Witten said.
Before the next game the Cowboys have a 9½-hour flight to London tonight. They have to adjust to new surroundings in London as they get ready for the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium.
“We got to get our edge back and can’t let the bad creep in,” Mincey said. “That’s what this trip is going to be all about; not allowing the bad to creep in and keep guys motivated and optimistic.”
