Ok, so since this team won’t add meaningful free agents beyond the minimum it takes to field positions, our only shot is to not only crush it in the draft, but also get a ‘second draft’ of former draftees (and UDFA’s) whom we had all but written off as JAGs or who’ve otherwise failed to realize their potential.

2024 draftees really don’t count formthis

So who’s your ‘Second Draft’ by round?

Round 1) Mazi Smith. This one’s easy. Smith is in his Landry year. We need him to get to make a DJ Reader type leap and get to become known for anchoring vs the run and reaching Reader’s modest but effective 4th year pass rush line: sacks (2.5), tackles for loss (6), and quarterback hits (13)

Round 2) Sam Williams. It’s almost like you could paste the 2023 draft here. Williams has all the potential in the world and we must see it reach fruition in 2025

Round 3) Turd/Schoonmaker. Again, a layup from the 2022/2023 drafts. Between these two, we need an elite option to finally emerge. Dak can MAKE a TE’s career in this league, and these two have the raw athleticism and pass catching ability. But do they have the physicality it takes? We need at least a prime Turd from the 2023 season for a full year.

Round 4) Jalen Tolbert. No way are we going to hit the extremely expensive $12-$25 mil/year WR market, so 2022’s 3rd rounder Jalen Tolbert has to be the guy to step up and compliment CeeDee Lamb. Brandin Cooks is a FA, and while we might retain him for less money he’s mostly spent at this point in his career. Tolbert kind of ‘did what he was asked to do’ in 2024 and was productive with 49 catches and 5 TD’s. He needs to kick it up a notch and turn in at least 2023 Brandin Cooks kind of season.

Round 5) Damone Clark. Ok, so he low-key over achieved his injured rookie season and fell back to earth with a ‘normal’ 2023 and couldn’t swim out of the mire in 2024, but a surge from this kid growing into his body, landing as starting off-ball LB to pair with Overshown when he returns (that’s correct, when) is just what the doctor ordered. Unfortunately he’s done well enough statistically that the cheap Joneses might cut him to avoid paying him his performance-based 3.4 million 2025 salary.

Round 6) Asim Richards. Yes he ‘started’ a game in 2024 by default, but we need this kid to lock down our swing guard position and turn in serious hours at RG behind Martin.

Round 7) Jalen Brooks. This kid flashed at times and did well with the opportunity he had, and he’s my official dark horse candidate for #3 WR behind Lamb and fellow ‘Second Draft’ class member Jalen Tolbert. With a sprinkling of Turpin at #4, I in my clear delusion believe Brooks can be that peak Michael Gallup player Dallas needs.

So without Free Agents, who’s your “Second Draft”?
