Guyton isn't plug and play at LT. Going through some growing pains but hopefully will get better.
That’s absolutely my hope. Hell, even Tyron Smith wasn’t given LT out of the gate.

I’d just like honest answers regarding his uneven play and apparent benching

Depends on the starters you’re talking about.

Tell you one thing, it will help a ton if they get Parsons signed early on so there are no distractions.

I’d also like an honest fucking answer about what the deal was with Guyton this year.

Can they go with the guys they have if they June-cut Martin?
I'd feel fine going into next year with Guyton/Tyler/Beebe/Bass/Steele/Richards/Hoffman on the OL.

That group doesn't have the talent we're accustomed to but there's a lot of depth and versatility, I could reasonably say that we'd have 7 OL who I'd feel comfortable with starting a game.

Add a draft pick to the mix and maybe some development from a guy like Nathan Thomas and it could be a strong group, not dominant, but I've certainly seen teams around the league compete deep into the playoffs with less.

The real trick would be if the organization actually made a legit move or two (or at least re-signed most of our own FA's) thanks to going cheap on the OL, but lord knows they'll probably fuck around while letting half of our top FA's leave.

Yeah he was a developmental guy when we drafted him. Let him develop, I think he will be good out there. I think a full offseason working with the team will help a ton. You can see the potential when he plays. He just always gets called for holding when guys try to go inside on him. I think some of that is the adjustment to playing on the left side.

The Oline is young, they should be able to develop into a solid unit. There is actually a lot of talent there in my opinion. It's just young.

The way McCarthy talks about him I think the issues are more mental/demeanor/personality than anything, like always pointing out how he needs to be "available" sounds to me like a nice way of calling him soft and that he needs to push through minor injuries more.

He played basically all of the snaps against the Panthers, and was reasonably decent based on the all-22, and then barely plays against Tampa?

That seems like an issue with how he's conducting himself during the week and/or in practice.

All I know is that it seems like it's now two years in a row that the scouts have kind of whiffed on the "football character" of our first round picks and that needs to change ASAP.

Good thing Jeanty is pristine character wise from every indication.

Yeah, although for Mazi's character he appears to be turning it around some. Sort of makes you wonder if we hard started with him like this where he would be now. I don't know what the team did with him as a rookie but it sure seemed like we fucked around and tried to make him into something he wasn't. Sort of felt like a year of lost development.

And I know when we drafted Guyton he had great character and work ethic. Sounds like now it's just a toughness thing. Which may be part of adjusting to the NFL. College football is a shorter season and you're not going against guys that hit like this week in and week out. Again, a full offseason preparing his body should help him.

Yeah, Guyton is one of the biggest mysteries on the team. When we drafted him he seemed almost perfect: talented, working with Duke, and saying all the right things in interviews. Was he that big a phony? Is he hurt worse than we know? Is he just that soft? Did his confidence get shot? What is it?

Maybe it's understandable that they don't want to say now during the season, but as soon as the final gun sounds I want to know what the deal is.

I think Guyton has been ok, especially for a rookie. Certainly not a disaster or anything. I don't understand the consternation. Maybe I'm missing something.

Just that he's healthy enough to play but isn't, especially when that means Chuma Revdoga plays ahead of him.

We can only hope that Guyton develops as much as Maxi did between year one and two.

So Bert Kreischer is partying with the Steelers fans on the Netflix pre game. He just drank some homemade wine and told the broadcasters he had about 30 more minutes of drinking and he'll be useless. :lol

Mahomes may be a little gimpy, but it looks inevitable, the Chiefs will get another Lombardy.
