OJ Santiago vibes. A team going nowhere grasping at straws.

The issue is that this team doesn't operate logically because they completely refuse to do anything in FA.

They operate in a complete vaccuum, totally outside of what is going on around the rest of the NFL, and what happened with this trade is that Stephen's propensity for seeking out cheap contracts led to them overpaying because in his peabrain having him on a rookie deal for two more years is a "value".

Because of course we can't actually try to upgrade the roster through FA, that's against the law.

This is similar but even Santiago had three seasons of production after being a third round pick. They traded a fourth and a seventh just like then.

I know a bunch of people are going to blame Jerry Jones but this is a Goof Son/McClay thing.

So it was bad enough that we threw away a 4th round pick on Trey Lance and now we're doing it here.

What's even dumber is that RB is far more of an issue than WR and yet we didn't trade for that.
They don’t think the RB is the issue. Dowdle just needs to carry the ball more. And stuff.

Wat? Why do you say that? It's the same logic as the Lance trade where he didn't ask anyone else.

Because the justification is how much we liked him in the draft and Mingo is a relatively obscure player, not some well known top 5 pick that even Joe Fan recognizes.

There's no chance Jerry unilaterally pulled out the 2023 draft board and said fuck it, I'm trading for our 45th ranked prospect.

I doubt it was unilateral, but I'm not going to say he isn't to blame, either. Everything goes through him.

When you refuse to do anything in FA these are the types of moves you resort to.
They literally have no other way of valuing players.

1. If he has value, we scout him in college, and that is his value, pretty much for the rest of his career.
2. If we did not scout him in college, he must have no value (see number 1 above), and therefore, is of no interest to the organization.
