We may need at least a nickel corner by next season.

If Bland gets elevated after we say goodbye to Gilmore, we will have a need as I don't think Jourdan Lewis is in the future plans.

He has not shown me that he can be a dependable player, even as a reserve.
Lewis missed like 5 games in five years before last year and has always been a really good slot CB for us, it'd be insane to draft a CB in the first so they can sit on the bench all year just because we might need one next year.

Who said draft a corner in the first?

We can get a guy like Stevenson in the 2nd and be fine for 2024.

Like DE, it is a sneaky need.

I just do not want to be in a position to need a CB to the point where we just have to get one in the first round ever again.

That'd be fine, although probably still less than ideal depending on what else is there. I'd start feeling much better about a CB in the 3rd or so, someone like Darius Rush or Cory Trice, I like Stevenson so I wouldn't be livid but if we pass up on someone like Benton or Josh Downs I'd be quite disappointed.

The 1st talk comes from the fact that we brought Forbes in for a 30 visit and aside from his weight he seems to check all the boxes, really praying he's gone by the time we pick.

You're a real corner whore.

I still think second is too early. This is a deep corner draft. I'd take a guy on day three though without a problem. I'd take one in the second if it was great value but that would be like Forbes falling to us in the second round type value.

Agreed, I'll roll the dice on someone like Rush, Trice, Brents or even Stevenson himself dropping to the 3rd and instead hopefully grab someone like Benton, Downs, Jack Campbell, Isaiah Foskey, Dexter, Kraft or LaPorta in the 2nd.

If you're not tied to a long corner their are other good corners in the draft that will push guys down too. Phillips, Turner, Rush, Cam Smith, Kelly and Tomnlinson (Yes he is related to LT).

I expect Ringo to go in the second as well.

It's amazing how long Fisher and Richie Whitt have been tag teaming the Cowboys teat. They were BFFs when I listened to Fisher on KLIF in the mid 90s.

And Bayless on the same teat, still suckling.

I don't think any of them have any sort of intel on what the Cowboys are thinking, they're just connecting dots. Brugler might have some peripheral sources in the front office but I'd put much more weight in someone like Slater dropping those sorts of hints.

She isn't a consistently great reporter but she does seem to have decent sources at certain times of the year, particularly around FA and draft time. I think it was her and/or Broaddus maybe who hinted at the interest in Tyler Smith last year and Trysten Hill a few years ago.

They aren't always right but I'd put the most credence in them.

Gehlken is very tied in also but doesn't drop direct hints like that about specific players in the draft, he said about a month or two ago that we'd be interested in TE in the first though.

No but I think a lot of people are over valuing the loss of Schultz like it's some massive wound that we weren't prepared for.
If we were not to draft one, I wouldn’t be horrified to roll with Ferg and Hendershot. I know we wont let this deep class of TEs go untapped tho.

Yeah, I think that's the thing. TE probably looks like much more of a hole to outsiders than it really is.

Yeah, I think we will draft a TE. We have scouted a decent number of middle round guys. Which is what makes me think we are looking at guys in those rounds. And frankly we probably could use a third TE. But I'm also not sure what to read into our lack of interest in the top TEs. Maybe Mayer is our guy and we don't feel like we need to look closer. Maybe we just aren't interested in a first round TE. You'd think if Kincaid was our guy we would have brought him in to look at his back and such for example.

We brought Washington in but I'm not sure if we really view him as a first rounder.

I would say it’s connecting the dots but apparently there is actually a lot of smoke there re: Mayer. They probably see him as Jason Witten again.

Despite the lackluster deal and interest Schultz drew in FA.
