Everything he said is true, if they go out and get a somewhat capable vet who can operate as a swing OT we'll be fine, all things considered.

They didn't draft Smith to be a long-term LG, he has literally never played LG in his life. Theoretically it's an easier transition and a way to ease him in to playing LT by refining his technique before eventually putting him out there, but ultimately they obviously drafted him to eventually move to LT.

Now maybe that doesn't pan out, but that was clearly the thought process.

I don't know what's wrong with me but I'm listening to Jerry's radio show. Few things...

Talks like last year was our year. Saying that we reached a pinnacle (or apex, words to that effect) with our roster last year. Said we "pushed it all in" and we have to hope we can make up for the areas we lost (and of course he thinks we can). I wonder why he says this or why they decided to do that when we have all this cap space.

Players who stood out in camp? Hill, Bohanna, Sam Williams. We needed to get bigger in the middle of the DL and we have.

Says our safeties are as good as they've ever been. His love affair with Hooker continues... says he was the 6th overall pick (wrong) for a reason and he's playing to that. But I guess him and Kearse are as good as Waters and Harris or Woodson and Roy Staydownbiznatch or Washington/Everett/Woodson back in the Jimmy days.

Says Tyler has a high ankle. Let's hope he's wrong about that. He probably is. But sounds like he's the LT for sure.

Says if this were the Super Bowl, Gallup would be playing. Um, no way. He looked like he was 3/4 speed when we saw him at practice.

We'll keep more defensive than offensive players.

Wants it burned in everyone's mind that we lost in the playoffs when we should have gone farther. Says (again) last year we were built to go deep.

Obviously it depends on the severity but generally high ankle sprains take 3+ weeks to properly heal. We're still 12 days from kickoff so hopefully it's the milder version.

I read he was supposed to practice this week, so I don't see how it could be a high ankle. I don't think he's been in a boot or anything, has he?

I think Jerry was just wrong again. I was trying to figure our why he thought Hooker was a #6 overall and all I've got is he mixed him up with Roy Williams.

Oh, and also, he said a couple of times he expects Tyron Smith to be back for "the meat of the season." Sure, Jan.

:jerk

You know what the GMs and owners of other organizations who are in this situation and who have plenty of cap space do to get over the hump?

They make trades and sign key free agents to strengthen their rosters. They don't operate as if they're in the red.

So Smith has played little to no left tackle in camp, and currently can't practice at the position, yet is expected to start there in less than two weeks. Makes sense.

Even under optimal circumstances, I would be pessimistic. But things seem to be sliding off the rails and we haven't even made it to week 1.

Oh, we are already well off the rails. We are aimlessly driving through a field at this point.

There's no way it's an actual high ankle, he was at practice like 2 days after the injury (I believe it happened in the Chargers preseason game) without a boot or anything, and seemingly practiced just yesterday.

As far as Hooker, I assume they had him ranked 6th on their board the year he came out, which wouldn't have been outlandish.

I also think the constant harping on how last season was "our year" is just setting the table for getting rid of McCarthy unless we surprise this year. And to be fair, last season we had a roster that should've been able to compete with anybody and to not even win a single playoff game (at home no less), while putting up double digit penalties, was pathetic.

Something like this would really tie the patio together. Really legitimize the podcast

Why don't you buy a plasma cutter and cut that out for me?
