Some David Moore notes from this morning:

They had high hopes for Ball, he made big strides in the weight room and had a good offseason. They say he's actually not that bad all the time, but he's one of those players who when he's bad, it's embarrassing bad. But maybe not as bad overall as the glaring plays may indicate. Still a little disappointed he hasn't come along better.

Doesn't think Waletzko is an option, he was always planned for a redshirt, just like Ball last year,

Says McGovern actually was beating out Smith at LG, not because Smith did anything wrong but because CM has really raised his game. Says the team is more comfortable with him right now than they ever were last year. That's kind of interesting IMO.

Claims the team isn't that high on Fisher for some reason. Says keep an eye on Marcus Cannon, who they were looking at and maybe even talking to even before the Tyron injury.
I certainly hope that's true about McGovern, if he can play to the expectations he had coming out, or even if he can just play as well at LG as he did at RG last year against Tampa in the opener, we'd be in pretty solid shape on the line as long as they can work around Tyler's growing pains.

He was a better prospect than Williams I think, much more physical, it's just that he's seemingly taken forever to get used to playing LG.

Yep, I liked him a lot at Baylor. He has a lot of potential and if you got him, you might not have to worry about drafting WR for a few years.

But I bet Goof Son is afraid there's no room for him.

As much as we joke about it, he thinks everyone is a progress stopper because every young player is going to work out.
Yea because he just can't conceive of a reality where our draft picks are all just the best ever and it's only a matter of time.

Mims is young though. He wouldn't be a progress stopper as much as another potential young player to compete.

I agree, I'd love to get him. He has a lot of talent. But like @Simpleton said, I think Stephen believes Tolbert will be a star and Gallup will be back and better than ever in just a few weeks. So he thinks our top three are all great and we're set there already, so no room at the inn.

Well yeah that's the problem. They don't stress over the bottom 3 WR's on the roster enough. Which is probably why we are in the position right now where we had to resign an injured Gallup and draft a WR. We just didn't have the young guys coming up through the ranks at all. We instead had a guy like Noah Brown who was never going to be anything at WR. Sure Mims right now isn't going to unseat Gallup once he is healthy. He isn't going to unseat Tolbert or Lamb. But right now he could say be your fourth WR. And then if Gallup, Lamb or Tolbert has an injury or set back at some point in the season you're not relying on a Houston or Noah Brown to carry the weight at receiver. I guess I should include Turpin too as he is going to get some plays at WR.

Honestly right now Fehoko should probably be in the discussion for our top three WRs too. I think he has more potential than Brown and probably gives you just as much if not more right now.

They preferred an injured Gallup over a healthy Cooper.

I'm fine with this as long as we can add a vet who ideally could be a swing tackle and play OG in a pinch.

I don't begrudge them wanting to throw their 1st rounder out there as opposed to a bandaid like Fisher or Peters, but we do need that added depth either way because Ball/Waletzko can't be one injury away from playing.
