We said we’d rather have Dorance Armstrong and Bobby Wagner than Randy Gregory…

Maybe that comes true…?
There's nothing wrong with signing guys like Fowler and Washington in a vacuum, the issue is the blatant disregard by the organization to use FA in any way to add a potentially meaningful impact player.

If they signed Wagner tomorrow, or if they had signed Marcus Williams to the exact same deal they were offering Gregory, I'd be more or less fine with what they were doing, even with trading Cooper and cutting Collins. But they aren't going to do that because Stephen is an arrogant, obtuse fuck who would never sniff any sort of role in an NFL organization if it weren't for who his dad is.

I met Jason and thought he was a pompous ass.... I think he screwed Wade. I have a long story, but don't get the feeling it would be appreciated here
There are a few thoughts here about Garrett:
  • Dave Campo was just as good, if not better, a coach, working with a much less talented roster than Garrett.
  • Bottom 1/4 coach that helmed the most disappointing era in franchise history, directly causing mind-numbing losses like icing kicker in Arizona, too much passing leading to losses vs Matt Flynn Packers and Lions with a ~24-point lead, inability to make halftime adjustments and relying too much on Dan Bailey field goals.
  • Vehemently defend Garrett, scouring internet depths for any posts of hyperbole, to assert he is no worse than middle-of-pack head coach that is foolish to replace unless it’s Belichick.
  • Fucking redhead ginger robot clapper with no coaching tree/network leading to retread assistant coaching hires (Kiffin, Marinelli, Linehan), doomed for failure as Jerruh’s beloved puppet while Jerruh playboys about the Eugenia. Sandbagged play calling to get Wade Phillips fired.

I don't mind a flier on Washington. He has some upside and is still young. But even if he proves to be any good he is gone a year from now. Sort of same thing with Fowler except he is older.

The problem with Washington is he kind of feels like a shorter version of Gallup. Which is cool when Gallup misses the start of the season but we need to add another WR.

Yeah I don't think Washington is anything special. He's no Wilson, who I still really like. But he's at least a solid pro, and by all accounts I've heard is a very good and solid guy. And this usually doesn't matter, but he is from a tiny little town in west Texas, so maybe he likes being "home".

He is a deep threat and can catch highpoint passes, so he might pan out.

But a 5-11 guy who high points it? Hard to go up and take the ball from people at under six feet tall.

And wasn't he like a mid 4.5 guy? So not really that fast.

I do like him and think it was a decent signing mostly because I think he's a solid pro who will be where he is supposed to be, is a good professional, that kind of thing. But I don't expect a lot from him, honestly.

He has a decent jump to him. And you are correct, he is not a numbers guy and has a weird build. But he can separate.
