Despite suspensions, player absences, Jerry Jones is relentlessly positive about 2016

OXNARD, Calif. - During the State of the Cowboys news conference Friday that kicked off Dallas' training camp, owner Jerry Jones, executive vice president Stephen Jones and coach Jason Garrett took myriad questions. Many were about the suspensions and absences of three key defensive players relating to violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. Linebacker Rolando McClain and defensive end Randy Gregory may not play at all this season and neither are in camp.

But Jerry Jones had his own message, one that at times seemed disconnected from the questions being asked. Jones made it a point to be relentlessly positive about the 2016 season.

Quarterback Tony Romo and wide receiver Dez Bryant are among the players who are back from injuries that contributed to a dreadful 4-12 2015 season.

"It's an exciting time. It's a positive time," Jones said. " I will tell you right now that it is far more positive to be sitting here with what we've got ahead of us over the weeks and months ahead, than it was at midpoints through last season. We are not going to let a few setbacks, a few notable setbacks, deter the fact that we are fortunate, we have many assets and we're going to put them on the playing field and win ballgames with them."

During a discussion of injuries and suspensions, Jones made it clear that the NFL is a risky business, but used that as a reason to again preach - you guessed it - positiveness.

"It's just an example of really why you should focus on what is good about it, where the good things are," Jones said. "We are going to focus on the good, good people that can be on the field that can play and make plays for us."

Later, Jones again turned to being positive, literally.

"We're having a day of positiveness," he said, "and we're going to have days of positiveness during this training camp and we're going to hopefully be against the Giants [in the season opener Sept. 11] wide open and full or promise and positive."

What an idiot. Rather than focusing on fixing the problems - not to mention focusing on finding players who won't create them - he is only interested in being positive. That's the lazy man's response to the situation.

Jerry seemed even more unstable than usual yesterday, if that's possible. This "we gone be positive" line was just one example.

This seemed like a good idea at the time.

Totally agree.

Nothing wrong with being overly positive, but when it start impacting how you approach something, or starts clouding your vision then its time to get off the wagon.

Jerry sunshine pumping bullshit is a major reason the franchise is where it is.
