I don't think their coaching is so much more superior...I think Saban wears the ever living shit out of them and he has a lot more of them to use up.
Possibly but I think the coaching has something to do with it too.

We got ourselves some rock solid draft talk going on right now though, this is real nice.

If I am taking the guy in the first, he better be the guy my defense is centered around. Frick giving Lee a breather. He's the mike.
I didn't mean giving Lee a breather like off the field. By moving him outside where some plays just aren't directed towards him so he can take a few off, plus he won't be playing coverage 20 yards downfield.

He is right. Our starters are strong. What we really need are some special teamers. And if they can grow into backups in a few years, even better.

I don't mind taking a LB, but again, without a commitment to the DL, they are gonna get run over. Lee and Carter are not players who will excel at taking on linemen. They need to flow to the ball.

They have to go DL early and often...it's as apparent as the Smith draft.

OMG, they will get run over.

I thought this was like a passing league.

At least that is the rationalization for what Garrett does the majority of the time.

Make up your fricking mind.

Do teams just suddenly turn it on to smash little defenders?

The college game is all about the spread and that is how the talent is coming out. The deal now is to relate to that.

He's right, though. We need more buffer between our LB'ers and the OL.

Who was our speed bump in the 1990s?
Russell Maryland, later Chad Hennings. But we need our DL to put pressure on opposing QBs so the back 7 can hold up in coverage too. Whether it's run or pass, DL is the answer.

Even in a passing league you run 40% of the time. I'd prefer not to surrender 40% of the plays because we have a shitty DL.

Run stopping is still an important and underrated part of defense.

Oh, and I totally agree with you that Garrett doesn't run the ball enough so I don't know where you are going with that.

I didn't say we need a "speed bump."

But in the 90s we had the deepest DL in the league and every single one of them was an excellent player and all were good against the run, even Charles Haley. Just because they were fast doesn't mean they were all pass rush specialists.

Frankly, the 90s teams makes my case for me. If we develop a sick DL, our LBs will use their speed to destroy teams.

So after years of everyone begging for it, we're going to deviate from BPA in the draft? Cause Mosley would most definitely be BPA over any DL that will be available to us.

I don't think he's so much better of a prospect than Donald that I would take him over a guy who fills such a glaring need.

I didnt say that. I'm fine with Mosley.

Better find some DLs in FA or the draft later, though, or hello 32nd ranked defense again.

As bad as we need DL help there's no need to force it. It's going to take more than just this offseason to fix the defense. If there's a significantly better player available at a non DL position in round one I'm fine with it -- with TE and CB being the only exceptions.

I agree, I just don't want to pass on talent. I think Ware restructures and sticks, Hatcher will be franchised after more deals are reworked and then we'll fill the final 2 holes through draft and FA. We won't throw numbers at the position as it's just not in our nature.

My plan would be to get the best lineman I could at 16.

I don't think Mosley is that great of a prospect. I think he is another overrated Alabama LBer. I'd prefer Pryor and Clinton-Dix to him even. I just don't see Mosley as this dynamic LBer worth a high first rounder.

Mayock says Pryor is a bigger Bob Sanders, and the top safety in the class, and as such I'd be fine with him at 16. It may be a bit obtuse but because I remember Mayock nailing Earl Thomas as the best safety in that class while everyone had Berry as the clear cut top safety/top 5 overall pick, I will take pretty much any evaluation he has of a safety as gospel.
