Going into camp, might as well start one to keep track of what's going on league-wide...

Report: Mike Pouncey likely out “at least three months” after hip surgery

Posted by Mike Wilkening on June 23, 2014, 4:58 PM EDT

The Dolphins reportedly could be without their top offensive lineman at the start of the 2014 regular season.

Center Mike Pouncey is anticipated to miss “at least three months” after undergoing hip surgery on Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.

A three-month recovery timetable would make Pouncey’s Week One availability in doubt, as the Dolphins begin the regular season against the Patriots on Sunday, September 7. Moreover, were Pouncey to be out for more than three months, it’s possible he could land on the PUP list, which would necessitate at least a six-game absence were he to remain on PUP at the beginning of the regular season.

Pouncey, who made the Pro Bowl a season ago, is regarded as one of the game’s top centers. The Dolphins’ first-round pick in 2011, Pouncey has started all 46 games in which he’s played for Miami. He turns 25 in July. The Dolphins extended Pouncey’s contract through 2015 earlier this year.

The Dolphins’ offensive line play was a weakness a season ago, and Pouncey’s injury hurts the club’s effort to built cohesion at this vital position.

Knowshon Moreno out one month after knee surgery

We've gained a level of clarity in the mysterious case of Knowshon Moreno.

NFL Media's Albert Breer reported Monday the Miami Dolphins running back recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery and will miss about a month, according to a team source.

ESPN's Adam Schefter had the first report. Word of Moreno's surgery comes on the same day it was learned that Dolphins center Mike Pouncey will be out at least three months after hip surgery.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday that Moreno's lack of activity during Dolphins minicamp was the product of lingering soreness in his left knee. Moreno was scheduled to see a doctor in Miami this week to learn more about the issue.

Moreno signed a one-year $3 million contract with the Dolphins this offseason, $1.25 million guaranteed. The Dolphins might be experiencing some significant buyer's remorse.

Tough day for Miami.

Just goes to show you that despite some whining from a lot of our fans, we are not the only team that has to cope with injuries.

Put it this way...for them this is like Frederick gone for three months and our starting or even reserve RB gone for a month.

If the worst thing that happens to us this year is bumblefuck Lee being out for the year, we're ahead of the curve, especially when you consider he would've been out for at least 4 or so games to begin with.

Report: Vick Ballard tore his Achilles

Posted by Josh Alper on July 25, 2014, 6:30 PM EDT

The Colts saw running back Vick Ballard get carted off the field at practice on Friday and initial reports are that Ballard has suffered a severe injury for the second straight season.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that Ballard tore his Achilles tendon during the workout. That sets up another lost season for Ballard, who tore his ACL in the first week of the 2013 season and missed the remainder of the season.

It also leaves the Colts looking a bit shaky at running back heading into the preseason. Trent Richardson did not impress anyone after arriving in Indianapolis in a trade with the Browns after Ballard got hurt last season and Ahmad Bradshaw ended last season on injured reserve with a neck injury. Bradshaw has also dealt with foot troubles throughout his career, which creates further reason to worry about their depth.

Dan Herron, Chris Rainey and Zurlon Tipton round out the running back group, which makes it seem likely that the Colts will be looking for help outside the organization if and when they confirm Ballard’s diagnosis. Michael Bush, Felix Jones, Ronnie Brown and Willis McGahee are some unsigned veteran options that could be of interest to the Colts.

Kendall Hunter suffers torn ACL

Posted by Mike Wilkening on July 26, 2014, 12:54 PM EDT

The 49ers appear to have lost one of their top reserve running backs for the season.

Fourth-year pro Kendall Hunter has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament, the team said Saturday morning. The injury seems likely to end Hunter’s campaign, assuming the standard recovery of close to a year for an ACL tear.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, Hunter sustained the injury after catching a short pass in Friday’s practice.

With Hunter out for an extended stretch, rookie tailback Carlos Hyde seemingly has a chance to push for a key backup role in his first NFL season. LaMichael James and Marcus Lattimore are also in the mix for carries behind starter Frank Gore.

The 25-year-old Hunter racked up 358 yards and three TDs on 78 carries in 2013. Overall, he’s rushed for 1,202 yards and seven TDs in regular season play since entering the NFL in 2011, averaging 4.6 yards per attempt.

This is the second major leg injury Hunter has suffered in less than two years. He sustained a torn Achilles tendon in 2012, but he returned to play all 16 games last year.

Jackson is so beat up. Wouldn't be shocked if he is done.
