We absolutely should bring in Spears. Seems like a no brainer at this point.
If it's a just for this year, warm body, because there's nobody else, take the minimum you piece of crap signing.

But I don't want anything to do with him being here beyond this year.

That's pretty much how I feel about it.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of signing Spears. Even if he stays at DE, let him play 1st and 2nd down to keep Selvie fresh and let him come in on 3rd and obvious passing plays.

I agree we need to do something to keep Selvie fresh...he is having a hard time staying fresh right now.

I always wanted to see what Spears could do as a 4-3 DT, but even as an end I'd take him because he was always solid against the run, and we definitely need more bodies along the line.

He'd be a solid player at either DT or DE. He's not gonna provide a pass rush but he'll give you some snaps.

He's better in a 3-4 though because of the no pass rush thing.

He would be an upgrade over half of the line , he could probably play end or tackle, and we'd get 8 games to look at him in a Tampa 2. I don't know why we wouldn't do it. It's not like we aren't desperate right now.

Big fat and slow, no need for that on our D-line. We have plenty of guys on the roster that can just provide a breather if that's all we are looking for.

He would be a disaster as a 4-3 DE.

He is so slow he would never be able to hold any type of contain on his side. I don't think I will ever understand the love for Spears that some still cling to. The guy doesn't belong in the NFL anymore.
