Report: Cowboys DE Randy Gregory has begun path to reinstatement

By: K.D. Drummond | 42 minutes ago

While the Cowboys remain understandably quiet about the situation, Randy Gregory may be preparing to make his case he deserves another shot in the NFL. According to Cowboys’ media personality and former club scout Bryan Broaddus, Gregory has started to lay the groundwork to file for his reinstatement.
The discussion happened on Live at the Star, on Periscope.

“This is something I just heard, matter of fact it was maybe yesterday… Randy Gregory is kind of getting a plan together to try and apply for reinstatement. I understand some of his people have met with people in the NFL at the Combine. So now the groundwork has been laid for Randy Gregory to potentially file for reinstatement…

Keep an eye on that… let’s see if the paperwork goes through.”

Both hosts stated their belief the club may not want him back. Vice President Stephen Jones stated at the combine the club was moving forward as if Gregory was not in their future plans, as they had no control over any aspect of his reinstatement.

“We have to move forward as if Randy will not be here. If he is here, obviously it’s a big deal.”

The Cowboys still have multiple years of control over Gregory, as the last two years have not counted as accrued seasons towards his unrestricted free agency.

In late February, Gregory made his first public statement, sort of, in a while when he posted to Instagram. The message was pretty clear that he was trying to put his past behind him and start on a new chapter in his life

The next step professionally would be to file for reinstatement with the league to resume his playing career.

Gregory played in just two games in 2016, the final two of the regular season. He missed all of 2017 after a new year-long ban.

The grumblings that happen around an organization with more leaks than a sponge in a garbage disposal bring up Gregory’s plight often. It feels like, despite the possibility the league could reinstate the former Nebraska star if he applies for it, the organization may not be too keen on welcoming him back. There have been no confirmations Gregory has failed another test since being banned last January. There was a report around last April’s draft he had failed or missed another test, but nothing ever followed up that TMZ report. Still, publicly, it doesn’t appear the Cowboys are holding even a sliver of hope he’ll be part of their plan moving forward.

It appears that he’s gone near or more than a year and a half since his last failed test. His year-long ban was first reported in November 2016.

Seems they might have learned a thing or two about Msr Gregory over the term of their relationship.

It takes being wrong 4 or 5 times before they finally get the hint.
