ARLINGTON, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones made a joke with reporters about a Super Bowl run on Thursday.
After a few laughs, Jones said this 2013 version of the Cowboys is better than the 2012 one.
"I think we’ve taken steps to improve our team," Jones said. "We are a better team, no question in my mind than we were at this same time last year. We got a lot of work to do, to compete in the very first ballgame."
The Cowboys improved the offensive line, a weakness last season, by drafting center/guard Travis Frederick in the first round, signed veteran safety, Will Allen, drafted a capable backup to running back DeMarco Murray in Joseph Randle, and expects the return of injured defensive players, Sean Lee, DeMarcus Ware, Jay Ratliff, Bruce Carter and Barry Church, to help the team.
Several changes among the coaching staff include defensive coordinator (Monte Kiffin) and play caller (Bill Callahan) are expected to improve the Cowboys too.
"We feel like we got the right kind of guys on our staff and we feel like we got the right type of guys on our football team," coach Jason Garrett said. "It's time to go to work. The plane leaves tomorrow and day 1 in Saturday. We're excited to get going."
