Is Jerry Jones the lone Cowboys executive vouching for Rolando McClain?

When news went public about Rolando McClain’s 10-game suspension, the Cowboys had known for approximately two weeks. It can be assumed those days included several conversations among the Cowboys brass about how they should proceed with a player who will be suspended for almost an entire season worth of games in the last two years.

With McClain showing up to workouts overweight and out of shape and skipping OTAs, this probably wasn’t the first discussion. As he is still on the team, there are still people within the organization defending McClain. Maybe there is only one, but he might be the one with multiple votes.

Why is Jones defending McClain?

McClain’s cap hit this year is $3,375,000, for now, but if the Cowboys were to cut him they’d only have $750,000 in dead money (his signing bonus) from the move. So, it doesn’t appear to be a money issue.

Another issue could be the locker room presence and team dynamic. While McClain’s price could be lower, his teammates could be more upset with him, creating a controversy in the locker room and that is the last thing the Cowboys need after this off season.

Is McClain one of Garrett’s “right kind of guys”?

The answer to that question seems to be no, unequivocally, so then, why does he remain on the roster?

Apparently, because Jerry.
