Dak Prescott says he's thankful Cowboys veterans have urged him to speak up, gain more of a voice
By Brandon George , Staff Writer

FRISCO - Second-year quarterback Dak Prescott said he's appreciative of how the veteran players have helped give him more of a voice among his teammates during offseason workouts.

A year ago, Prescott was shagging balls in the outfield during the Cowboys' annual Home Run Derby. This time, he batted first Monday as the new face of the franchise.

Prescott said his confidence is "completely different" from a year ago.

"It's my first offseason. I get it, kind of running the show," Prescott said. "In the locker room in the summer, working out with Jason Witten and Sean Lee, you're going to naturally kind of let those guys have it. For them calling me out sometimes to the group, it's been good.

"I got to thank all the vets of kind of doing a good job of kind of giving me a little bit more to say and some things to do, it's important."

Witten, who is entering his 15th season as the longest tenured Cowboys player, said Prescott "has earned" more of a voice in the locker room.

"He's the quarterback, and that voice needs to be heard," Witten said. "He's had a great offseason in how he's approached it. As he moves forward he'll be more comfortable with that. For all of us to try to empower him and help him, he's done a great job. I can't say enough about how he's gone about it so far."

This offseason will be a night and day change for Prescott because it's his team now.

No more struggling to find reps with the starters.

The passing game should take a major step forward.
