One of the most influential people in the Cowboys' draft room over the weekend was Will McClay. The team's senior director of college and pro personnel has played a significant role in bringing in many of the top players the Cowboys have drafted and signed in free agency over the last few years.

When you have success in McClay's role, other teams come calling. While McClay has recently drawn interest from other clubs, he says he's pleased with his current job.

"I'm very happy with my role here with the Cowboys," McClay said Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan's G-Bag Nation show [KRLD-FM]. "It is a family and I want to be a part of building a string of successful championship teams. One of my main goals is to be a part of something that helps Mr. Jones win a Super Bowl here really soon.

"I'm happy where I am. Who knows what the future holds. I love it here. I love the organization and the things that we do."

McClay has been working in the Cowboys' personnel department for 15 years. He was elevated to assistant director of player personnel in 2013. He took over his current role in 2015.

McClay, who began overseeing Dallas' draft in 2014, played a large part in last year's class that many believe could be one of the best in franchise history. He's also been a key factor in adding notable veterans like David Irving, Jeremy Mincey, Rolando McClain, George Selvie and Laurent Robinson.

"I have a 10-year-old son, who's my world, he loves it here," McClay said. "When opportunities came up this year, I sat and I talked to him and said, 'Buddy, what do you do?' He says, 'No, we got to be a Cowboy.'

"That means the world to me, him being here and wanting to be here. Getting the opportunity within this organization, I do get a chance to step away and catch up to his games and be around him, and that's a very, very valuable part for me too."

Vault: open it.

And if we win a Super Bowl in the near future, he should be up there with Jerry when they hand him the trophy.

This interview was in The Fan in Dallas. Will sounded like he knows his worth and it seems like he likes it in Dallas. Hopefully his son keeps talking him into staying.

If he is paid just as well, why would he? He ultimately is not responsible for any of the picks. Jones will always take credit and blame, it is just what he does so he can be viewed as knowing what the hell he is doing.

A regular GM has pressure from ownership and the fan base and is held accountable. The average life expectancy of an NFL GM is three years. Rarely do you see them go beyond five years. So if he is secure with his family being rooted as an important thing to him, who wants to change to that kind of role? He certainly does not seem like he craves the attention and notoriety.

On another note, it is a little interesting that suddenly McClay is a chatter box now, running around giving all kinds of interviews. A few weeks ago he was this shadowy mastermind that did not give a lot of interviews.

Not at all. The public demanded to know who is the mystery person behind the recent draft success.

I also didn't know this but he was the head coach for the Dallas Desperados. He stated scouting was a lot tougher for arena football since it entailed more attention to lesser players and it part of the reason he's so good at it today.

Don't you dismiss my paranoid fear, old man.
