Cowboys LB Sean Lee on team's 4-9 record: "this is what we've earned.''

Sean Lee doesn't mince words.

The Cowboys didn't just happen to fall to the bottom of the NFC East. They aren't closer to a top five pick than a playoff spot due to injuries or bad luck.
They earned it.

"We didn't expect this at all, but this is what we've earned,'' Lee said. "We have to find a way to play better football and we have to find a way to continue building. We haven't done that.

"We have guys in here who have won in the past and we have to get back to that winning formula. That starts with this game and it starts going forward.''

Injuries go a long way in explaining the team's 4-9 record, but Lee refuses to accept that premise.

"You can't use that as an excuse,'' the Cowboys linebacker said. "You have to find a way to win ballgames.

"A lot of teams have injuries. We haven't gotten it done in critical moments. But we still have an opportunity and we still have to try to take advantage of it.''

Lee believe how the Cowboys perform in the final three games of this lost season can set a tone going into next season.

"I think it absolutely carries forward,'' Lee said. "The way you play, getting better, building toward something.

"Obviously, we've taken a step back from where we were last year. But, I still believe, and we still believe, we can be a good football team at some point.

"The sooner we do that, the better we'll be.''

Lee's right. The Cowboys are healthy. Only Romo is injured.

Dallas always takes a step back after playoff years, and they more or less luck into those playoff years as it is.

They are never built the right way, and so when the duct tape and bubble gum patches happen to work one year it's no surprise it all blows apart the next year.
