He also said he isn't ruling out Scandrick, Tyron or Bailey. Then followed it with the Jaylon Smith comment. :lol

I mean I'm ok with him keeping the world in the dark with injuries but at some point it would make more sense for him to just say nothing then to keep talking. But Jerry loves being the center of attention too much for that.

He literally used the phrase, "I'm not ruling out" on every one of those players. I don't know why, but the repetition of it made me chuckle.

Cowboys hope to snap streak with Tony Corrente as ref
9:55 PM CT
Todd Archer
ESPN Staff Writer

FRISCO, Texas – For the sixth time since 2010, the Dallas Cowboys will have Tony Corrente as the referee when they take on the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

But they hope to avoid something of a trend in Corrente’s games.

The past two times the Cowboys had Corrente as the ref, their starting quarterback, Tony Romo, has gotten hurt. In 2014, Romo suffered two transverse process fractures in his back in a loss to the Washington Redskins. Last year, Romo suffered a broken left collarbone in a Week 2 win against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Cowboys are 3-2 since 2010 with Corrente as the ref, but they have been heavily penalized in those games. The Cowboys have had 42 penalties for 370 yards, while their opponents have been flagged 27 times for 247 yards. In last year’s Eagles’ game, they were flagged 18 times for 142 yards.

A week ago Corrente worked the Detroit Lions-Chicago Bears game and called 21 penalties with 18 accepted. The Lions were penalized 10 times for 76 yards, and the Bears were penalized eight times for 55 yards.

Here is the breakdown:

Illegal block above the waist – 2

Defensive pass interference – 1

False start – 4

Illegal forward pass – 1

Offensive holding – 6

Offside – 1

Illegal shift – 1

Neutral zone infraction – 1

Offside, free kick – 1

Defensive holding – 1

Illegal formation – 1

Illegal touching – 1

Quarter-by-quarter:

First – 4

Second – 9

Third – 3

Fourth – 5

This seemed like a good idea at the time.

Yep. I've always felt Jones should let Garrett address questions on injury and playing time, etc. But that would mean Garrett had some balls and wasn't afraid of being photoshopped out of the family picture.

Hell even GM's in the NFL aren't the ones usually talking about injury reports every week are they?

Big Picture: Just Like Cowboys, Bengals Also Welcoming Key Players To Lineup
Tuesday, October 04, 2016 5:14 PM CDT
By Nick Eatman
DallasCowboys.com Staff Writer

Cowboys:

With a quarter of the regular season in the books, the arrow is indeed pointing up for the Cowboys – in more ways than one. Obviously the 3-1 record has created a buzz around Cowboys Nation, especially considering two rookies are leading the way on offense.

We might have expected Ezekiel Elliott to have a fast start, but the fact he’s leading the league in rushing with 412 yards is an added bonus. The bigger surprise – at least to the outside world – has been the play of Dak Prescott, who has performed so well in four games that the term “quarterback controversy” has started to develop, although the Cowboys’ coaching staff continues to dismiss the notion of Tony Romo not getting his job back when he returns from his back injury.

Nonetheless, Prescott’s play has been good enough to at least make it a conversation topic.

The Cowboys have been able to win games without some of their key players, aside from Romo. All-Pro tackle Tyron Smith has missed two straight games with a back injury, and Dez Bryant sat out last week with a fractured bone in his knee. Orlando Scandrick (hamstrings) has missed two straight games and guard La’el Collins has now been moved to IR as he needs toe surgery.

Still, the Cowboys have found a way to win three straight games, although none of their four opponents so far have a winning record.

Even more positive news is that this team should get even better in the upcoming weeks, including this Sunday against the Bengals. Smith, Bryant and Scandrick all have a shot to play, and defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, the team’s sack leader last year, returns from a four-game suspension.

But the Cowboys will need all the firepower they can get against a Bengals team that looks much better than its 2-2 record.

Bengals:

Not only do the Bengals have the NFL’s leading receiver in A.J. Green, who has 32 catches, but they should get even more help in the passing game this week.

Tight end Tyler Eifert, who has been out the last four games with an ankle injury, is expected to return this Sunday. The Bengals are hoping Eifert can help a struggling red-zone attack that ranks 31st in the NFL. Cincinnati has just four touchdowns in 13 attempts inside the 20-yard line.

As a result, only three Bengals players have scored touchdowns in four games as running back Jeremy Hill has three, Green has two and backup tailback Giovani Bernard has one.

The Bengals have had to settle for field goals too often as Mike Nugent has made 12 of his NFL-leading 13 attempts.

Quarterback Andy Dalton is moving the ball efficiently, thanks to 20 passes of at least 20 yards or more, which leads the entire NFL.

Defensively, Cincinnati has been able to withstand some struggles on offense thanks to a tenacious defense that ranks ninth in the league in total defense, yielding just 322.8 yards per game.

Playmaking linebacker Vontaze Burfict missed the first three games of the season due to a suspension, but he returned to action last week against the Dolphins, who converted on just three of 15 third-down attempts.

Apparently he won player of the year in HS after kicking a game winning FG to win a playoff game. The legend grows.

Cowboys' Tyron Smith expected to practice; Chaz Green has foot sprain
9:14 AM CT
Todd Archer
ESPN Staff Writer

FRISCO, Texas – Dallas Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith hopes to practice today in some capacity for the first time since Sept. 23, when his lower back tightened up.

It's a good thing because his replacement, Chaz Green, suffered a sprained right foot against the San Francisco 49ers and is not expected to practice Wednesday. Green was spotted Tuesday wearing a walking boot. He was injured in the first half against the Niners but remained in the game.

Smith has missed the last two games because of a bulging disc in his back that has led to spasms. He said he is continuing to feel better and the hope is he can play Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. If the Cowboys follow their normal protocol for injured players, he will likely work back in on a limited basis Wednesday with the idea of doing more as the week proceeds, provided he feels OK.

The Cowboys have had to mix and match their offensive line the last two weeks with injuries to Smith and La’el Collins. On Tuesday, Collins had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right big toe and will be placed on injured reserve. Ronald Leary has stepped in for Collins, and Green has been solid as Smith’s replacement in the first two appearances of his career.

If Green is sidelined for a significant amount of time, Emmett Cleary, who signed last week, would handle the role as the swing tackle. He was active Sunday but only played on special teams.
