Why Cowboys WR Brice Butler could be on verge of receiving more playing time

Drafted: Seventh round, No. 209 overall in 2013 by the Oakland Raiders

Contract status: Signed a four-year, $2.227 million deal in 2013 that runs through 2016.
Last season
The Cowboys completed a trade last September with Oakland to acquire receiver Brice Butler to give them more depth after starter Dez Bryant was injured.
Butler came in and surpassed Devin Street on the Cowboys' depth chart as the club's fourth receiver.
In early October, in a Week 4 loss at New Orleans, Butler injured his hamstring on a 67-yard reception. He then only played in one of the next eight games over a 10-week stretch.
Butler finished the season strong, catching four passes in each of the Cowboys' last two games to finish 2015 with 12 receptions for 258 yards.
This season's outlook
Butler showed great promise in his first season with the Cowboys, especially over the last month of the season after he finally recovered from a hamstring injury.
Butler should again be the Cowboys' No. 4 receiver and finally get a chance to play with starting quarterback Tony Romo.
Butler is a veteran receiver who has great height (6-3) and is still young. He could be on the verge of more playing time if he puts together a strong training camp. A breakout season in 2016 could pave the way for Butler to compete for the Cowboys' No. 2 receiver's job in 2017 if they decide not to re-sign Terrance Williams.
