Based on my random survey of five teams, here is where Cowboys No. 1 Travis Frederick was on draft boards: 4th (1), 5th (2), 6 (1), 6-7 (1)
Any team that says he was a 6-7 on their board is just straight lying through their teeth.

NFL Radio has been talking all day about us targeting Tyrann Mathieu in the 3rd with one of our picks. Anybody ever heard of us being interested in him? I haven't.
He reminds me of someone the Bears would pick up and he would be an absolute beast causing turnovers in their defense. Considering we run their defense and we could really use turnovers I would be happy with it.

That's what they were saying, he'd be brought in as a safety.
Don't buy it. They have not expressed much interest and Broaddus has been clear that he thinks he is "in the box".

Not really sure what to think. I like his talent, kind of scared of his attitude. If we did take him, that sure would put a dent in the whole "RKG" thing.

Dez has already expressed his preference. Knuckleheads tend to cluster.

They are saying on the Hardline that the draft has already been botched by what has happened so far, that this team needed a perfect draft to compete this season and it's already screwed up.

I don't agree.

I mean, I agree this team needs a home run draft. But that means we need to get hits on 4-5 picks, and by hits, I mean either immediate starters or soon in their careers.

We have the opportunity with 3 more picks coming up today to hit on all of them. Unlike last year, when we were basically done after Claiborne, we have the opportunity to seriously control the next round and a half. We could move up or down a little too if we really like someone because of the extra ammo we got.

If we can go 3/3 in these next three picks, and then get even 1 keeper in the 4-6 range, we'll be in good shape.

I don't care if it's a linebacker, safety, DT, interior OL, or OT. Even a WR or RB.

Find 4 immediate contributors at those spots. It's doable.

‘Sorry, wrong number’: E.J. Manuel gets early phone call meant for third pick Dion Jordan

E.J. Manuel says he didn't share the rest of the football world's surprise when the Buffalo Bills made him the first and only quarterback selected in the first round of the NFL draft on Thursday night. The Florida State signal caller was in on the secret that the Bills coveted him highly and the two sides officially became a pair when the team selected him with the No. 16 pick after trading back from the eighth slot earlier in the night.

[Also: E.J. Manuel leaves other QBs behind in first round]

Manuel was taken offguard earlier in the night, however, when someone accidentally dialed a wrong number and gave him a slight rush of excitement over the possibility of top 5 money.

Here's what Manuel told the Dan Patrick Show on Friday (via the show's producer):

Paul Pabst @PaulPabst
E.J. Manuel said his green room hotline phone rang at pick 3. He got excited, then the voice asked if they could talk to Dion Jordan.

Well, that must have been awkward. Did Manuel call Jordan across the green room and say "Uh, it's for you? It's the Dolphins?" Did he consider impersonating Jordan and say there's no way he'd take his talents to South Beach if drafted? Did he just say "wrong number?"

These are questions we need answered, but the Bills have to be happy with the way their new quarterback handled things. He'll have to deal with a lot of curveballs once he's trying to win games in Buffalo.

If we can get three long term starters in a draft I think that is successful. I view Frederick as a long term starter. That means over the next three picks if we can hit on 2 of those I'd be thrilled (Not necessarily year one starters but by year two or three they are starters). Then get some role type players from there and I'd be pretty happy. And by role players I mean blocking TE/backup RB/Nickle LBer/Pass rusher specialist. Guys that maybe are never starters but they contribute on the field in a meaningful way.

I agree. The focus should be finding guys who we think can contribute sooner rather than later.

We can't afford to waste any more picks on projects from SE WGAS State.

Broaddus doesn't think Lattimore is on the Cowboys board.

:sad
He's a nice story but a year away. We need a back who can play now since Murray will be injured again by midseason.
