It's kinda a sad day for me. A one of a kind singer died. The one and only Merle Haggard. To really appreciate his talent you have only to listen to someone else try to sing his music.

Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Runnin' down the way of life,
Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep.
If you don't love it, leave it:
Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'.
If you're runnin' down my country, man,
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

I always got him and Waylon Jennings confused.

Certainly one of the greatest singers and songwriters country music has ever known. One of my absolute favorites. God speed, Hag.

A lot of veterans that gave of themselves, their time ,loss of limb and loss of life feel very strongly about their willingness to serve so this country could remain free. Those song lyrics reflect their sentiment somewhat.

Yes, I'm sure our freedom was at stake in Vietnam.

What has that got to do with the sacrifices the troops made? They paid a price and they aren't complaining about that but they get pissed when some yokel belittles their contributions.

Merle was always in the populist wing of country music. This is a track he put a few years back around the time he was touring with Dylan:
My favorite song of is "Natural High." Just a simple, straightforward love song.
