Tony Romo's status for veteran minicamp uncertain

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo's status for next week's veteran minicamp is uncertain.

Listen Romo hasn't participated in the three weeks of organized team activities, but is still attending OTAs at Valley Ranch while he recovers from surgery to remove a cyst from his back.

Romo, who underwent surgery in April, was supposed to need three weeks of recovery time. But the Cowboys are going to be cautious with because there is no need to rush with games so far away.

"We're probably going to be real conservative there," Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones said. "It's probably unlikely, again, I know I said probably unlikely, but it's still probably unlikely he will be in minicamp."

Jones said Romo's recovery has gone well and he's doing conditioning drills to stay in shape.

The Cowboys are not concerned about Romo's absence from practicing because he's still working with playcaller Bill Callahan and his teammates.

No reason to risk re-opening a surgery wound, but Romo needs agility conditioning to avoid the pass rush that will only get worse as the year goes on.
