IRVING - Some clarity emerged Monday on the Cowboys' secondary woes Sunday against Atlanta and star receiver Julio Jones.

Midway through the third quarter, the Falcons had Jones in the left slot. Jones came across the field to his right on a post pattern, made the catch over the middle with cornerback Tyler Patmon trailing him and ran into the end zone for a 45-yard touchdown.

On the play, Patmon was supposed to get safety help from Barry Church underneath and J.J. Wilcox over the top and neither played it the right way. Church was supposed to help redirect Jones and Wilcox was too high when the pass was thrown, failing to close quick enough to help in coverage. Wilcox dove at Jones' feet near the end zone and missed the tackle.

The Cowboys' secondary also had another hiccup Sunday. After Jones' 45-yard touchdown catch-and-run, the Falcons went for two. But the Cowboys had only 10 players on the field for the successful two-point conversion pass. Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said rookie cornerback Byron Jones was the player missing.

Garrett was asked Monday why he didn't take a timeout before the play.

"We were trying to get the information as to whether or not we had 10 or 11 on there," Garrett said, "and they snapped the ball before we got that information."

Garrett’s ass is beginning to show again, like last year was just a fluke. Blowing games, dumb mistakes.
