ARLINGTON — Starting weakside linebacker Justin Durant’s season has ended. He tore his right biceps Monday night, according to team owner Jerry Jones.

“Man, I just can’t seem to catch a break,” said Durant, who will undergo an MRI on Tuesday. “It’s hard. It’s very, very tough.”

It likely means a bigger role for rookie linebacker Anthony Hitchens.

Durant has battled injuries since he joined the Cowboys in 2013. He missed six games last year, and two games already this season.

It’s a disappointing end for a season in which Durant was named a defensive captain. He’s played well when he’s been on the field, too, and even led the team in tackles Monday night with 10 combined, including two tackles for loss.

His teammates know Durant’s loss will be felt.

“It’s going to hurt us,” cornerback Brandon Carr said. “Durant has been playing some great ball this year. Not only that, just the way he leads and keeps everybody together on the same page on the defensive side of the ball. But we’ve been here before. We’ve had guys go down every year and it comes down to that next man up.”

Said defensive end Jeremy Mincey: “We’re definitely going to miss him. He’s one of our leaders and definitely a valuable piece. But we’ve just got to rally and step up our leadership and I think we’ll be fine.”

In other injury news, starting right guard Ronald Leary went out with a groin injury, but Jones said he did not know the severity. Leary would not comment after the game.

Mackenzy Bernadeau replaced Leary for the overtime series.

Welcome back Hitchens. This is a tough loss because Durant is the only one that seemed to really get the WLB position.

Well that's it for this season. Let's just hope maybe 1 playoff victory and draft a DT early in the draft.

Durant was actually playing well. Much better than Carter. This will be a significant loss.

Especially since Carter has only played well at SAM, he sucks at WLB. For better or worse, Hitchens is our Will backer going forward.
