A slight tweak to La'el Collins' contract

5h

Todd Archer, ESPN Staff Writer

IRVING, Texas – The NFL forced the Dallas Cowboys to tinker with the contract for undrafted free agent La'el Collins and it ended up costing the offensive lineman $58,000.

When Collins initially signed with the Cowboys, he received a three-year deal worth a fully guaranteed $1,657,500 with base salaries of $435,000 in 2015, $545,500 in 2016 and $656,000 in 2017 with a $21,000 signing bonus.

But the league forced the Cowboys to alter the 25 percent increase off the yearly proration of the signing bonus in 2016 and 2017. According to NFLPA figures, Collins' base salaries in 2016 and 2017 are $526,750 and $616,750.

Now Collins' deal is worth a guaranteed $1,599,500.

The final year of the contract might prove to be moot anyway. If he plays as well as the Cowboys hope, then they can offer him an extension after 2016 where he could begin to make up for some of the money he lost by not being selected in the first round of the recent draft.

Meh. It's only $58,000

Damn why I couldn't be born to more athletic parents?

I'm sure Jerry will find a way to give that money back to him.
