What the Cowboys can expect in the draft: first round

IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys have seven picks in the upcoming NFL draft with selections in Rounds 1-5 and two picks in the seventh round.
Let's take a look at the past five years at each draft position in which the Cowboys will be selecting to offer up some perspective on the type of player they will be getting.
Today we start with their first-round pick, No. 27 overall:
2014 -- Deone Bucannon, S, Washington State (Arizona Cardinals): He had a productive rookie season in the Cardinals' sub package playing a hybrid linebacker role. He had 81 tackles and picked up two sacks along the way. He is one of a number of versatile players in the Arizona defensive backfield.
2013 -- DeAndre Hopkins, WR, Clemson (Houston Texans): The Texans said goodbye to Andre Johnson in part because of Hopkins' development. Even with unsteady quarterback play he had 76 catches for 1,210 yards and six touchdowns in 2014 after catching 52 passes for 802 yards and two scores as a rookie.
2012 -- Kevin Zeitler, OL, Wisconsin (Cincinnati Bengals): He has been the Bengals' starting right guard since he arrived but he has played just one full season. The Bengals gave up the third fewest sacks (23) and averaged 134.2 yards per game on the ground last season, which was sixth best.
2011 -- Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado (Baltimore Ravens): A supremely talented player, he went lower than expected because of some off-field concerns. He was in the midst of a Pro Bowl season in 2014 before he was sidelined after eight games with a foot injury.
2010 -- Devin McCourty, S, Rutgers (New England Patriots): He entered the NFL as a cornerback but made the switch to safety in the middle of the 2012 season. He is one of the defensive leaders for the Patriots and was rewarded with a $47.5 million contract this offseason with $28.5 million guaranteed.
