Report: Mike Wallace likely to be traded to Vikings

Posted by Michael David Smith on March 13, 2015, 6:47 PM EDT

Mike Wallace, the Dolphins’ expensive and underachieving wide receiver, may be on the way out.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that Wallace has been on the phone with Vikings within the last hour and that a trade is likely.

When Wallace signed a five-year, $60 million contract with the Dolphins two years ago, Wallace’s father said that Wallace had turned down a bigger deal from the Vikings. Apparently two years later the Vikings still like Wallace, and Wallace may now be willing to go to Minnesota.

Wallace has started all 32 games since signing with the Dolphins, but he’s been a disappointment, failing to reach 1,000 receiving yards in either season. There’s also been talk that he and the Dolphins’ coaches haven’t always seen eye to eye.

In Minnesota, Wallace would give quarterback Teddy Bridgewater a big-play threat in the passing game. And by trading him away, the Dolphins would give themselves some salary cap relief, and get rid of a contract they now wish they hadn’t offered.

It's possible Jeff Ireland was something less than a personnel genius.

It is more than a little odd that another Parcells acolyte in Tannebaum has spent the last week flushing out Ireland's mistakes.
