My TV cost 150 and my CAR cost me 2,000. Regardless, one of my coworkers just paid 25k to an attorney over a BS charge, and he could afford to because his parents are rich. Meaning if I was charged with something serious, regardless of the merits of the charge, I'd be screwed because I can't come up with that kind of money. Are you implying that public defenders do not give an adequate defense?
In all seriousness you guys with your $2,000.00 TVs on this message board can certainly afford an attorney.
Public defenders not only don't give adequate defense, they don't give defense at all. They work for the prosecutor's office to help force the defendant to plea bargain, regardless of the merits of the case. The best they will do is a good faith effort to negotiate for less time. It's not their fault, per se, because they can't afford to give adequate defense on what they are paid.
