IRVING – With starting right tackle Doug Free possibly out 3-4 weeks with a fractured right foot, the Dallas Cowboys made a roster move to add depth on Wednesday, signing veteran offensive tackle Tony Hills and releasing defensive end Lavar Edwards.
Hills, a 2008 fourth-round pick out of Texas, had been on the Miami Dolphins practice squad. Hills was at Cowboys practice on Wednesday, wearing jersey No. 67.
Jermey Parnell will step into Free’s starting spot. Hills will join Donald Hawkins as the team’s two reserve offensive tackles.
“Hawkins certainly has an advantage, [Hills] is just getting here,” Garrett said, “but we like this guy. He has a little experience, so we’ll see.”
Hills has played in 10 NFL games with the Steelers, Broncos and Colts.
