Jerry Jones: If needed, Tony Romo can carry the Dallas Cowboys

IRVING – Jerry Jones showed his confidence in Tony Romo back in March when he signed the Dallas Cowboys quarterback to a six-year, $108 million contract extension.

Romo can reward the team’s owner and general manager by guiding the Cowboys to a playoff berth, something that might take Dallas winning its three remaining games.

Of course, the entire season isn’t on only one player. But if Romo needs to carry the team, Jones said Friday that he believes the 33-year-old quarterback can get the job done.

“I do, and it’s almost within a play that it makes a difference,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM]. “When you feel like you can rely on stops, you know you’re going to have a stop. If you work your offense, if you need to save the play for a rainy day and kick the ball and then plan on stopping them and go again, when that becomes more of a question of than, of course, the importance of keeping the ball, keeping the drive going, making the play while you’ve got your time at bat, making the touchdown, all of that is accentuated.”

Romo’s yards per pass attempt are at a career-low 7.05. But he’s taken care of the ball better than any other season in his career. Romo is on pace to throw 33 touchdown passes and only nine interceptions. His quarterback rating (98.3) is second only to the 2011 season when he finished at 102.5.

On top of that, Romo has played some of his best football during the month of December. Over his last 14 games during the final month of the year, Romo has thrown 30 touchdown passes to only five interceptions.

Asked if the Cowboys need to go 3-0 to secure their first NFC East crown since 2009, Jones said he wasn’t looking that far ahead.

“Well, let’s get this one,” he said. “We do need this game this weekend. I’m not going to get involved in what Philadelphia does or doesn’t do. We need to come out and play well and play good. We’ve got a good game plan.”

He needs to pimp out for the team to get anywhere. My question is "if he can" why hasn't he?

Pimp Mode is one of those special power ups that lasts for a limited time. You can't depend on it like it's going to last.

Also the defense is collapsing like it did at the end of 2011. No one can carry that.

Hard to pimp out the more defenses figure out the offense. They know:

1) Double Bryant
2) Zone Witten
3) Single everyone else
4) Backs will only catch checkdowns
5) Always blitz empty backfields or 3rd and long because Dallas has no blitz busters and is incapable of throwing a screen to make you pay.

That's it. The offense will never adjust or change because Garrett's philosophy is always right (and especially when you have perfect protection, TO running wild, Witten in his prime, and pre-suck Marion Barber).
